Provera?

After finding out today that our IVF cycle failed, I was about ready to give up. I'm not sure yet if I want to do another cycle. We do have insurance, but its only enough to cover about 1 1/2 cycles ($20,000 lifetime max on anything fertility related.) We pushed to get the cycle we just finished in by the end of this year because we've already met our large deductibles. If we decided to do another cycle in 2013, we're going to struggle to pay for everything. Plus, I kinda put a deadline on having a child: age 42, which I would be if I conceive after Dec this year. ANYWAY, a nurse from my RE's office called tonight. She told me that while my RE usually does not recommend back-to-back cycles (he always waits a month) that he knows we are working with limited insurance and deductibles will kill us if we have to wait until January to try another round of IVF. He has offered to try to rush us into another cycle by starting me on Provera. She said it will help "calm down" my ovaries and uterine lining. I was cautioned that there is a good chance that my FSH levels will still be too high to proceed with another cycle, or even if I do progress, that my ovaries will produce inferior eggs because of their stress. I don't know what to do. I think if I was going to try another cycle I would prefer to do it now, when I'm still in the routine of injections and feeling crappy, etc. Also, I'm considering NOT taking the Provera, giving my body a break from all the crap I've been forcing into it for the past month, and just hoping my body knows how to heal itself. So, with that history, here are my questions:
1. Has anyone taken Provera in this circumstance, ie. to hasten a back-to-back cycle? (My periods and ovulations have always been normal and regular.)
2. Did you have any negative side effects from Provera?
3. Given my situation, would YOU try the back-to-back cycle, knowing it's probably your last, or would you wait until January, knowing it will cause a bigger financial and mental hardship?

Hi!  I just finished taking Provera last night, had no side effects and started my period 2 days ago.  I had to take it because my second attempt at IVF I was a poor responder (didn't make it to retrieval)  went back for my WTF appointment, still hadn't had my period (3.5 weeks later).

I am kinda a hasten cycle this time.  My clinic closes around Christmas, so if I hadn't gotten my period by Nov 7th, I would have had to cycle next year.  I am in the same boat as you - already paid high deductibles, etc.

Honestly, I think you have to be mentally ready to start again.  My story - I had a chemical pregnancy with my first IVF, I wanted to started acupuncture and diet changes before my next.  As stated above, I had a worse response the second time around than from my first.  I was ready to dive back into another back to back cycle from my first to second, but wanted to be able to say I was doing everytthing I could for the second one.  Hindsight, I don't know what I would have done.

Good luck with your decisions, I know it's overwhelming!

I don't have any experience taking provera.
I have to say, if I were given the opportunity to do a back to back cycle after a horrible one, I would most definitely do it. Mentally, I would need to have some closure either way. I feel like the time off between cycles is a mind fck for me and jumping into it tight away would be easier. If the next cycle turned out with similar results, I would be able to walk away from this knowing I would need to consider my other options. I feel like if I waited a month and went broke in the process, it would just piss me off more.
The only thing is sometimes the ovarian stimulation isn't as strong after a month of stimulation. Honestly, I have had a lot of variation of ovarian response cycle to cycle for no explainable reason so I don't feel like it is a guarantee that you will have less of a response.
I would totally go for it. What do you have to loose?
Again, I'm so sorry for the way your cycle turned out. I hope for nothing but the best for you in whatever you decide.
