toddandleah:Why are you trying to avoid it so much? I was induced at 41 weeks with my 1st daughter using cytotec and it was a great experience. It took 2.5 days in all since cytotec just ripens the cervix instead of bringing on contractions like pitocin does, so it was very close to a natural labor. My daughter was 8 lbs 1/2 oz so it was good we didn't go much longer. She had no side effects from the induction, and I went completely pain med free. Take your doctor's advice...they are the pros!
Just FYI, many people do not have any adverse reactions, but Cytotec is not FDA approved for pregnant women, nor their induction. There are a lot of differing opinions regarding this drug, so if you are to be induced, I'd just suggest doing your own research and discussing this particular drug with your hospital and doctors in advance. It appears this poster had a great induction with it, so not to dissuade you, but it never hurts to be informed.
Edit - and to answer your question, my doctor seems to want to push induction at 41 weeks, but I plan to stand firm that unless there is a medical reason I don't want it before 42 weeks. My feeling is the baby comes when the baby is ready. Inductions are always there and great if needed, but my opinion is, if the baby is thriving, let him/her thrive.
