Do we need a swing AND a bouncer?

Does it just depend on the baby, and what the baby will like? Do I just need one and not the other? Or should I keep both?

We received both as gifts at the baby shower, and I'm just wondering if most moms use one more than the other? And if that's the case, if I should return one of them and buy something we actually need? Or if we'll need them both, and should hold onto them both??

Thanks!!

I personally liked having both. The swing stayed in the living room, but I could move the bouncer to the bathroom if I needed to shower, kitchen to eat, etc. Both were necessities for our DS!

It totally depends on the baby.  DD HATED the bouncy chair and loved her swing.  Her cousin was the opposite.

DS likes and uses both. We keep the swing in the living room and the bouncer in the office, though it's portable enough I've taken it into the bathroom while I showered or to MIL's house for an afternoon.

Definitely depends on the baby. DD loved her swing. That is my number 1 must have item. But when she was born we lived in a smallish apartment and didn't want too much gear, so we didn't get a bouncy seat. Instead, we got the PNP with the newborn napper. We were going to get the PNP anyway and this way the napper didn't take up separate space like the bouncy would have. We detached the napper from the PNP when we needed it. Worked great.

If I had received both as gifts and had the room, I'd keep both. We don't have a swing yet because I want to see if we can just get away with the bouncer. If we can't, we'll get a swing. You just never know what baby will like!

Some people will say it depends on the baby but I never experienced that (not yet, anyway!).  I didn't think I needed both, but received a bouncer as a gift.  The swing is a MUST for me.  The only times I used the bouncer were to bring my daughter into the bathroom with me while I showered and got dressed, which was definitely very useful and important!  This time though, I may wait on getting a bouncer or another alternative for the same portability purpose, because the swing I'm getting (FP Zen) lets you take the seat off and it is supposedly really easy, but I haven't tried it myself yet.  (BFF says she did it every day for the same take-to-bathroom-for-mama-to-shower purpose and it was easy.)

I think it also just depends on your needs, your house, etc.  I would not skip the swing though, totally awesome.  Travel swings are also great!

We have both and they have gotten a lot of use in the last 4 months. The swing we move between our kitchen and living room and when DS was little he loved napping in his swing. I like that i can move the bouncer from room to room esp when I was on Maternity leave i could have him by the shower, whereever I was doing laundry, etc. Now that DS is 4 months he loves his bouncer. We have the FP Rainforest one and he plays with the toys, talks to them, and likes kicking and bouncing himself. We are getting ready to retire the swing as he gets bored and doesn't like the recline as much. We got our swing used from a friend and it was well worth it.

I received both as a gift, and I'm so glad to have both! Just as mm&mm said, the swing stays put in the living room and the bouncer moves all over the house, even outside. We have taken it out of town with us multiple times as well. Both are must-haves in our book!

L hated the swing and we tried and tried. She didn't like the bouncer until she was 11 weeks. I would still get both because you never know. If I had to do it over I would buy a used swing before using the new one.

This. The swing is our best bet to get dd to sleep if she is resistant. Bouncer is best for keeping her entertained in the bathroom.

We needed both.  Swing for naps and bouncer for moving around the house and getting things done.

You don't NEED both, but I'm happy with having both. DS gets bored easily. Sometimes, he doesn't feel like swinging and just wants to sit and chill, other times he rather swing and doze off in the living room near us. They both come in handy for different reasons. Plus, we travel with our bouncer and the swing is just too big to bring everywhere.
