what is this?!

My boy is 6 weeks old.  His face is eat up w/baby acne. He looks awful, but his ped said that it's normal and will go away about 2 months, but then eczema would kick in due to the cold air hitting his little face.  Well, I think he has eczema or something now....at 6 weeks! I'm not totally sure it's eczema.  He has a patch of redness on the right side of his face....the reason I dont think it's eczema is because the flakes are yellow, and it's only on one side...I'd think if it was eczema, it'd be all over b/c the wind hits his entire face, not just the right side.  What do y'all think?

DS2 had the same problem. I thought it was baby acne but when the doc saw him, she said he might have an allergy to the cow milk protein in the formula. Is your baby formula fed? I had to change him to soy formula and surprisingly his face cleared up but the next day.

I don't understand what wind has to do with eczema. DS had it on his tummy and legs, and mine is on my scalp...I don't think it is because of cold wind. Just try using aquaphor or another unscented moisturizer if it is bothering you.

DS has a red rash on his cheeks and forehead, I thought it was baby acne so didn't bother it but the pedi said it's a contact rash from him rubbing his face on our clothing. Makes sense, I wash his clothing in Tide Free and Clear but I just use regular Tide on the grown up clothes.

DD started with baby acne, then eczema by 6 weeks mainly in the face, but it progressed throughout her body by the time the pedi had looked at it and recommended switching to soy formula.  The soy definitely helped as DD indeed did have a cows milk sensitivity.  Her skin never got 100% better, but was much more easily managed once we switched.  We also switched to All free and clear detergent.  The aqua phone did absolutely noting for the skin.  Aquaphor is an emmollient and will trap any moisture the ski already has, but will not actually moisturizer.  After over a year of trying to find the perfect moisturizing cream, we fond Cerave to be best and still use it after every bath.  You mention it's yellowish...it could also be cradle cap, or sebhorreic dermatitis.  It's not just for the scalp, but can develop pretty much anywhere on the body.  DD also had this...we've been through all the skin rashes and I'm just waiting for DS to start with something!

DD also has this. Red patches, baby acne, rough skin, and yellow scaly flakes on ears and scalp. Pedi diagnosed it as sebhorreic dermatitis. He recommended washing the affected areas with Selsun Blue shampoo and a soft bristled toothbrush. 3 days later her rash is almost completely gone. We noticed a difference almost immediately though. After washing, we're putting aquaphor on her skin to protect it.
