Toys your LO loves?

My son will be 8 months at Christmas, and I know each of my parents will soon ask, "What can I get LO for Christmas?"

Thanks to garage sales and my MIL, he already has some of the obvious, big ticket items waiting in the basement for when he's a little older: little red wagon, riding baby scooter, one of those red & yellow baby "cars", big legos, a baby sled, a kitchen set.

So, I'm at a loss. He doesn't need much, but I'd like to be able to suggest one toy gift to each of my parents.  They live far from us, so an activity gift like a trip to the zoo together (normally my preference), isn't an option.

What toy does your 9-12 month old spend lots of time using now?  It doesn't need to be expensive, at all. Just looking for ideas!

My DD loves pictures!!  She especially loves looking at pictures of herself and other babies.  Do you have other family who live out of town, like nieces or nephews?  Your parents can do a personalized baby board book with pictures.  I just did this for DD from pint size productions (I'm not advertising for them, just that's what I used).  All of her cousins live out of state so I did pictures of them, plus her with her grandparents. 

She also loves the stackable plastic ring toy, you know the one with the 5 donut-looking rings.  And she also loves puzzles, especially one with animals.

My DD loves chunky puzzles especially Melissa and Doug, her fisher price activity table I got it on Black Friday for a steal! and push walker toy this is a new fave since she is working on walking. She also loves stacking cups/rings. My folks got her a smart trike for her bday and are looking into so table and chair sets for Christmas.

ETA: can they gift a membership to the zoo, children's museum, etc? MIL wants to pay for her gymnastics class when she moves up. A local gym does free baby classes, but once they walk well you move up and the classes are 100 for 8 weeks of 1x per week of a 35min class...yikes!!

Yes, my parents will totally go for this--and these are the types of presents I must prefer. But, I figure they deserve the opportunity to go out and purchase one toy for their grandchild...hence the idea searching.  The walker is a GREAT idea--I hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

DS loves books, and cars. He has a little car ramp and he's figured out to put the car at the top and let go. Also his musical push toy is a lot of fun. Those are the only things that keeps him occupied for more than 10 minutes besides the dog door and dishwasher!

target stores carry a toy line called byou toys, and I got my son a pair of key that make noise and has a light. It does also have a great wrist strap. For out of town family they have the cell phone in which you can record a message for lo to hear.

My parents just bought DS a little tykes rocking horse for his birthday. He LOVES that thing!

Any type of blocks, the $5 Garanimal stacking/nesting cubes at Walmart, her Fisher Price barn and learning kitchen, Mozart magic cube, she's getting into the little people now.  Think ahead a bit too for things that are age appropriate within the next year.  That way there are things you can kept stored until the right time, then you don't have to buy things.

Stacking rings, push walker, blocks, the box with different shaped blocks (i.e. cubes, triangles, circle), board books, and a ball.

 Seriously, I picked up a $3 ball at target and she loves the thing.

With all the fancy toys we have around the house, DS' favorites are balls or anything with wheels (including his stroller).

1.  My little guy loves theFisher Price Ballcano toy, he plays with that thing every single day. 

2.  At daycare they have the Step 2 Sizzlin' Shapes Kitchen and all the babies LOVE it, I bought a similar Vtec version at home and he likes it ok, but not nearly as much as the Step 2 one. 

3.  His great-aunt also bought him some megablocks which I thought were going to be too advanced for him, but he loves them.  There's a platform with wheels that he loves to push around and he loves it when you build anything that he can destroy. 

4.  Also, this may be a little advanced, but one of the kids at daycare just got the Step2 50's Diner for his first birthday and his mom said that he loves .  It it has a little kitchen part on one side and then a little booth on the other.  She said that sometimes he just sits in the little booth and plays forever.  Hope this helps :)

My DD loves cardboard books, her tunnel from IKEA, her musical table, toy car keys (realistic looking toy keys), toy flip phone, baby toy piano (Playskool or Fisher Price, I think?), and push walker.

These are called FunKeys and are $10 at Target. Babies battle over them :)

My DS is very very into playing with things that make lots of noise.  At daycare, he loves drums, the toy xylophone, toy maracas, basically anything that makes a loud noise.  At home, we have a box that we use as a drum and DS loves it when I sing and play with him.  Once he sees me going he thinks it's fun to try to sing along.

My babe is 9.5 months now and she loves the followings:

mozart magic cube (When she stands, she will wobble with mozart)

baby einstein tak along tunes (we have this as her travel toy)

and she LOVES neurosmith sunshine symphony - sound quality is excellent!

 

she also loves musical instruments and wooden blocks. They go into her mouth first, but she is slowly figuring out to play with them.

we've rec'd haba ball track roll n 'roll as a gift and she loves to watch.
