Any mothers experienced w/ Tracheomalacia??

I have a 12 day old little girl. She was diagnosed w/ this at 1wk old. It's labored breathing because her cartilage is soft so it is flimsy and causes very loud breathing, can kind of souns like weezing or whistling sometimes.

Any moms experienced w/ this? When did your LO's grow out of this? It is a scary sound and I know it's something they grow out of but it makes me and my OH uneasy and we check on her all the time. I googled this and even came across moms who have posted video's on YouTube of the breathing and sounds just like mine. Any advice would help. TIA :)

We have a consult with a pediatric ENT because our pedi suspects that our little boy has either this or laryngomalacia. His breathing can sound so scary! I don't have any advice but I'll be curious to see what others say.

Ds1 had it. He outgrew it around 2. Did you have a scope to confirm diagonosis? You'll just have to watch your LO when they get colds. It can go quickly in pneumonia or bronchitis.  Get a good nebulizier from your pedi. They make all the difference.

My LO (almost 3 months) was diagnosed at 4 days old with it. We were told to watch him closely if/when he got a cold, as he's more susceptible to bronchitis and pneumonia. We were also told that it would probably get worse before it got better, although that hasn't been the case so far. He usually only makes noise now when he's drinking too fast, for a few minutes when he first falls asleep, and an occasional minute or two of it during the night.

We go for monthly checkups at the children's ENT at Vanderbilt. So far LO is hitting all of his milestones, is at a good height and weight, and isn't having any labored breathing. ENT says he should grow out of it by 2 years old and as long as his breathing stays unlabored, he keeps growing, and keeps hitting all his age milestones, we have no reason to worry.

For me, his tracheomalacia sound, while scary as sh!t in the beginning as a new mom, has become almost comforting; if I wake in the middle of the night and hear his little whistle or wheeze, I know he's still breathing.

Well I never got confirmation no, so I guess that should be the next thing I do actually is get it confirmed and that way I think they can see how mild/severe it is also. My doc mostly suspects it he said either Tracheomalacia or Laryngomalacia and all the symptoms he asked about she has.

I would def say the same thing at first the breathing was keeping me from sleeping through the nightso we had a visit to the ER @ 6 days old. but now thats what I listen for to feel comforted is her loud breathing.

I'm going to set up the scope check to and get a confirmation on diagnosis and see if I should be having monthly visits too. . .

Should the nebulizer be used all the time? what about a humidifier also? Ive heard about using that too

We don't have our dx yet either, but I started using a humidifier at night anyway. It helps him quite a bit.

DS 1 had severe laryngomalacia.  In fact my husband and I would take turns staying up with him all night in the beginning because we were afraid he would stop breathing.  We found out that reflux makes it worse and he had that.  When we put him on reflux meds, were reassured that he would not stop breathing, and elevated one side of his crib 3 inches we relaxed a bit.  We had no issues with it during illness and no need for nebulizer or humidifier.  He outgrew it at 2 but when he is extremely tired we still hear it a little.  He is 2 1/2 now.  Good luck, it gets better.
