LO hasn't pooped in over 24 hours!

Should I be concerned if LO hasn't pooped in over 24 hours? I've done the tummy massage and the bicycle with his legs and nothing has happened yet. It hasn't made him grumpy but he is trying to and his face gets all red while he's straining. I just don't know anything else I can try to help him move it along.

my pediatrician said not to worry until 48 hours (if it's normal for baby to go every day). some babies go once a week.

this happens with my baby girl and she eventually works it out herself. sometimes it's easier when she's eating. i don't know why, but that seems to help her go when i'm feeding her.

it's hard to watch them struggle! hope he works it out soon!

It's fine.  Per the pedi, they don't get concerned until it's been at least a week, which is normal for a lot of kids.  As long as when it does come out, it's not hard, your LO is just fine. Hard poop means some constipation.  You can give an ounce or two of pear juice if you can't take the waiting though, that always cleaned DS out pretty quickly.  Or take a rectal temp.

My LO only goes every 2 days usually. Sometimes every 3. I asked my doc and she said it was fine.

Our LO continues to hold on for 6-7days and then he blows up for two days.  It is what it is, and the doc said not to worry about it as longs as the wets keep coming.

We use prune juice at @ the end of day 5.  After a day or two, watch out.

I feel ya though....watching my little son strain is not that fun to watch when there is nothing I can do about it.

Our 11 week old son just went 20 days without a BM!  He is exclusively breastfed and had regular BMs before this.  He was eating on his normal schedule and had the same amount of wet diapers.  His temperament was great so we didn't think he was in pain or constipated.  We called the Pediatrition's office at 7 days and 14 days.  They told us the primary indicator is temperament - so if he was happy and having regular wet diapers he was probably fine.  After the 14 day call they also encouraged us to give him baths with baking soda as it is supposed to relax him and encourage the BM.

This morning he just went with no encouragement from us.  We had called again today worried that 20 days was too long and they encouraged us to try the liquid infant suppository and schedule an appointment with our Dr - fortunately he went before we had to go through with either.

Remember it is very important for Mom to stay hydrated too so the baby is getting the best quality breast milk possible.

We have never been so happy to see poop :)

With my DD1 I had an issue with her straining herself I used supposatories before and another thing I did was reccommended by a nurse was to fill a bottle w/ warm water and corn syrup it cleans them right out!
