John

....is the only name my H and I can agree on.

There are certainly names that I like better but nothing he would even remotely consider.  We are very traditional (DS is Benjamin....goes by Ben or Benny) and I LOVE Johnny as a NN but I find John boring even though I think it's a solid name.

WDYT?  Boring? Cute as Johnny? A solid traditional name?

Full name will either be John Francis Matthew C*** (2 syllables) or John Francis Jude C****.

John is a 100% perfectly good solid name and I think Johnny is great for a NN.

While John is not very exciting neither is Benjamin (don't get me wrong I love both names they are just very traditional).

What about the Johnathan? and you could use Johnny or Nathan for the NN or Joshua is similar... with the NN Josh

Ben & Josh

Ben & John

Ben & Johnny

Benny & Nathan

I do love the sound of John Francis Matthew C*****

Solid, traditional name.

I used to dislike this name because I thought "John.  That's it.  John."  But, my husband is a John.  I call him Johnny, his family calls him Jake and many Johns go by Jack.  I love it now that I have a connection!

Growing up I always thought I'd name my son Jonathan... then I married one instead.  Clearly, I love that name.  Johnny is adorable for a little one, and he can always use John, Johnny, or Jack as an adult.  Good choice!

What about Jonathan? I find it a lot more appealing then John ( I find John boring as heck even though its solid). You can still use the nn of Jon or Jonny.

I like the combination of Jonathan Matthew.

It was our other top choice for DS.  It's DH's grandfather's name and weirdly I was the one who wanted to use it more, but we ended up going with Lincoln, which is more unusual (but actually ranked higher than John in the state where we now live, strangely enough).  It's a solid name and I liked the biblical as well as the family associations.

How about Johnathan? I have a lot of both in my family so I wouldn't use it, but there's certainly nothing wrong w/ it.

I really like it, but I'm biased since DS is John (we call him Jack). We were in a similar situation as you where DH and I couldn't agree on names and we ended up naming him John after my grandpa.

I think John is nice and goes really well with Benjamin.  Sometimes I struggle with the "boringness" of a few classic names too, but I try to remind myself that one benefit is that it's probably unlikely that I'll ever regret naming my child a classic name.

DH is John and goes by his middle name because he doesn't like it. He also won't let us use his name for our boy. I'd go with Jonathan. I love that name. John is a snore!

Thanks everyone: I feel better about it!

The John vs. Jonathan debate is still very active in our house. I love Jonathan Dh finds it a little too matchup with Benjamin. We also have a nephew named Jonathan so we are trying to be a bit different from him, although I admittedly like it As much.

Thanks again:

Love the Jonathan suggestion, but I would use John too.  Solid, traditional, and Johnny is very cute.

I love the name John. It was in our top two.

John is not as popular as it used to be. I think it's still in the top 50.

It's a solid and traditional name, but a tad boring for my liking.
