Mine was booked for 11-3 but I think I was done opening presents by 2:15.  I was uncomfortable and I asked my mom to nix one of the games she planned. I wanted comfy pants - stat.

Every shower I've been to hasn't lasted longer than 3 hours.  I don't remember exactly how long mine was, but it fell in that same window.

Mine is scheduled from 2-4pm and people have been asking me why it's so short. I didn't think that was short, especially because I know people don't usually like to sit at a shower all day long.

ETA: I didn't schedule it, I just know about it, so some of my friends have been asking me.

To me it depends on how many people.  The smaller the shower, the quicker it can go.  I do feel like 2 hours is a tad short.  I think 3 hours gives a good buffer.


BUT people expecting it to be only 2 hours may get them out of there quicker too.... :)

I went to a shower once where it was easily 3 hours before the gift opening started - and I left!  I had blocked out 3 hours and couldn't stay.

They spent the 1st 3 hours w/ eating, mingling, and at LEAST 5 games, and it might have been 6. 

 I think it was this shower that actually fully pushed me into being a "I hate shower games" person.  It was too much, and they went on for too long.  Insane time-suck.  I was so annoyed.

I had my smaller shower this past weekend with my family out of town.  It was from 2-4.  I thought it was perfect!  There were about 20 people there.  I spent the first 30 minutes up greeting people and thanking them for coming.  Then we ate and mingled for about another 30 minutes.  I then opened gifts then cut the cake, and that left us about another 30 minutes to mingle some more.  We spent the last part taking pictures, looking deeper at the gifts, and thanking people for coming.

We did not play any games and kept things very low key.  I believe everyone was gone by about 4:30 and it seemed as everyone had a really good time.  I got to speak with everyone who came and didn't feel rushed.

I went to a shower a few years ago and it was the most boring shower i've ever been to. it was from 12-4:30, the first 2.5 hours the soon-to-be mom wasn't even there. No games, just food, and no alcohol! 90% of the people there I barely knew; it was a cousin on my now husbands side of the family, and the only person I knew there was his sister. And to make it more awkward she didn't even say thank you for the gift when she was opening it, and i never got a thank you card. For me it was a waste of time.. not to mention my whole day basically, since she was over an hour from me. I want my baby shower short and sweet, maybe 2, 2.5 hours tops.

Yeah I kind of figured if it was much longer than a couple hours, people would get bored or leave early. I went to a ridiculously long bridal shower once and had to leave half way through the gift opening because I had already been there close to 4 hours.

i just had mine this past weekend.  it started at 11, we mingled until about 12, then ate while we played 2 games.  at about 1:15ish, cake was served and i opened presents and was done by 2.  people mingled a bit more, and we were on the road by 2:45.  so 3-3.5 hours, and i'd say the timing on everything was perfect!

I went to a wedding a month ago too that had timing issues too. UGH. First off, the wedding was almost 3 hours away, so that was a pain in itself. The ceremony was from 2-3. Reception started at 6. wtf were we suppose to do for 3 hours?? we stayed in someones hotel room until 5:15 (ate crackers since that's all they had) and spent the other 45 minutes getting to the reception. Didn't have appetizers until 7:30ish, and even then we only got 3 pieces. We didn't have dinner until 9 o clock, and left before dancing and cake since we had a huge hike back home. Not to mention I was almost 8 weeks preggo, and was dieing of nausea since I had nothing to eat all day. And the groom and bride was no where to be found... they even ditched their own party!!

I had two (one friends and family, one work) and both were about 2 hours.  I went to a shower last weekend.  At hour 3 she just began opening presents and I had to leave.  That was too long, IMO.

Most showers I've been too and including my own have been 2 to 3 hours in length. I went to one shower and it lasted a little over 4 hours! That was way too long for me. There were a TON of games and I felt obligated to stay since there weren't a lot people there to begin with.

Mine was about 2 1/2 hours long. We didn't play any games. Basically people got there, immediately started eating and then I opened the gifts.
