We have a Honda CRV (so a small cross-over SUV), and had both DS and DD rear-facing for about 9 months until DS turned 2. We didn't have a problem. DS was in a Marathon behind the driver and DD was in her infant seat behind the passenger. We moved DD to a Radian when she outgrew the infant seat (she was tiny, so 13 months in a snugride 22!), and the Radian is a lot harder to use RFing - it sits lower on the seat and is designed to be used for RF, FF, and a booster, so it is really tall to fit a larger child in a booster. We made it work, and DD just turned FF a little over a month ago - but she needed to be behind the passenger
