Sonogram Day!

A quick background - due to PCOS I have to take Progesterone the first trimester to help prevent miscarriage as women with PCOS don't tend to produce enough Progesterone to support early pregnancy (not always the case but it is the case for me). I've had two miscarriages and four live births. So this is pregnancy #7 but I am calling them our fifth child to reduce confusion.

On Oct 1 (a month ago) I got a faint BFP and I called the midwife and requested we skip urine and go straight to blood because I required Progesterone. I wasn't seen at this birth center during the 1st trimester in past pregnancies (I did give birth to my son there but didn't transfer there until late pregnancy with him) so they didn't really KNOW my medical history with that but they trusted me.

They got me into the lab and my first Progesterone was 7.9 and HCG was 23!!!! I found out super early. And the Progesterone was so low I freaked (it really should be over 12, closer to 20, though each doctor or midwife varies on their preference). I got the Progesterone supplements and boosted my Prog. to over 14. I have taken one 200mg pill by mouth a day for a little over a month.

Today we finally saw the baby and the heartbeat! If I hadn't gotten the Progesterone I knew I needed I know I would have miscarried. It was just way too low and in the past my Prog always drops without supplements as well.

And I'm exactly as far along as I said I would be as I do have longer cycles. Sometimes Mommas just know!!!

I hope my story will give other Mommies of low Progesterone hope that there MIGHT be something they can do. Progesterone won't work for a non-viable pregnancy but at least we can TRY something.
