Britax recall

Britax has recalled the hugs pads on the straps on the newer models. It seems some kids find them tasty and have been chewing on them. Go to britaxconvertiblerecall.com for more info and to get replacement pads.

If the straps are fastened tight enough, how is it possible for kids to chew on these pads?

Kids are flexible. See if you can get your bra strap in your mouth, bet you can. Pretty much they do the same thing in a car seat. I've caught my dd trying in her frontier, the harness passes the pinch test. There is zero slack and she can reach it.

One other question, gimmietimmies : ).... are the pads really necessary?  I think only one of my Britax's falls into the recall category (our Boulevard that I bought this year), but my 3 year old uses it and I am wondering if I can just take the pads off?

I would check with your manual. I installed one of our boulevards this weekend and I believe the manual said that the chest pads are required when forward facing.  They can be removed for rear facing if they are impeding the ability to get the straps tight enough on an infant.

Does anyone know if that means stores are sending theirs back? Will inventory be low for future purchases? Or do they apply the new pads?
