Baby Girl Name..Thoughts?

Hi everyone!

I am not pregnant yet but have started TTC.

We've been tossing a few names around and really like Ellis Belle for a girl.

Apparently "Ellis" is meant to be a masculine name (although it doesn't sound like it to me) so just wondering what others think of the name. :)

Its a boy name.  Doesn't matter if it sounds like a girl name to you, its a boy name.  It ranked somewhere in the mid 700's in the US for a boys name.  Check behindthename.com to see the background of Ellis.

I think Ellis is 100% masculine.

While Ellis is a boy name it's kind of a GP for me. What about Alice Belle?  Superduper close, and you're using an actual girl name.

I agree - Ellis is very masculine. I don't think it's no do-able for a girl's name - but I think that Alice is much cuter for a little girl!

100 percent masculine! Love it for a boy.

I think it is terrible for a girl. Agree with pp, what about Alice or Elise?

I don't get why the F it has become an American trend to try and make Welsh/Irish/Scottish/English BOY names into girls. Rhys, Rowan, Rory, Riley, Ellis...BOY names FFS!

It's 100% a boy's name - and not a great one at that.

How about Elise?  It's similar and she will never ever be mistaken for a boy.

If I saw it, I would assume it was a boy.  And FWIW, everyone assumed DD was a boy for the first eighteen months of her life because she didn't have much hair.  I'd hate to have to correct that assumption AND have to reiterate that she's a girl despite having what sounds to most people like a masculine name.

DD born 10/10/07 * DS born 11/25/11

Totally masculine and not at all nice for a girl.  Also, it doesn't flow with Belle.  Too much elle sound.

Sorry, but it's all boy to me.

Elise, Elsie, Alice all are in that same vein but are feminine.

It's a boy's name. When I hear the name Ellis, I think of Ellis Island.

I am going to disagree with everyone. I think there are SO many names that can be used for both genders, and I think Ellis would work just fine!

Grayson is one of my favorites for a boy, but my friend just used it for a middle name for her daughter...

Now a days, you can get away with it.   Ellie is cute for a nickname too!

I grew up with a girl named Ellis so it doesn't bother me but I wouldn't ever use it for a girl.

I like Elsie or Ellie instead
