NST Question at 41 Weeks - What's Next?

I'm a STM that will be 41 weeks tomorrow.  I was 1 cm dilated last week but other than that there are no other signs of labor starting.  I see my dr. again today but I have an Non-stress test scheduled at the hospital on Thursday.  I guess I'm wondering where we go from here?  I don't want to be induced but I know my options are diminishing the closer I get to the 42 week mark.  Is anyone else going through this?  Desperately need some advice.  I'm totally discouraged right now.  I want to wait for baby and I'm scared if I go in for an induction and baby is not ready, I'll have to have a C-section.  Baby #1 came 6 days late, went into labor naturally, and had a fantastic delivery with no pitocin.

I guess you just have to wait and see! An induction when you are overdue might go just fine. I was induced w/ my first at just a couple days overdue and it was bad, but I did not have a c-section. I'll never know if it would have been just as bad w/out induction just b/c it was my first baby. With the second, my water broke at the day you are on now (one day short of 41 weeks), with no warning and no dilation. The only thing that did happen was that I had started losing my mucus plug a day or two before. I was 1 cm at the hospital and had no contractions, so they started pitocin after waiting the maximum amount of time after water breaking (5 hours, I think). I was really scared about it after my first labor, but everything went MUCH better than my first despite the pitocin and was a totally different experience. It just seemed like everything moved along the way it was supposed to. So, I guess all that is to say that you just don't know how things will turn out, induction or not/pitocin or not. Good luck to you--hope something happens soon!

Thank you - that's great to hear. Hopefully I end up with as good of an experience as you had.  Were you dilated at all when they induced you with your first?  I guess I'm worried about not being progressed enough and going forward with an induction.

Usually with STM+ there isn't a whole lot of pre-dilation and effacment before labor starts. Usually it is 0-60 for lack of a better term. Don't get discouraged yet mama.

I was "maybe a fingertip" dilated w/ number 1 when they did the induction. I almost didn't do it but for various reasons (including which doctor was on call!) decided to try it. I don't think my body was ready that time. But again, with #2, I was only 1cm with no contrax when my water broke and it was still just much, much better.

This was me, both babies were late, but DS2 was 10 days late and on 10th day labor started about 6:30am (I had zero pain, cramping, contractions before then), went from being 10 minutes apart to about 2 minutes apart on the way to hospital, arrived and admitted to L&D at 7:48am to him being born at 8:03am!  GL
