What to eat before induction?

For anyone who has been induced or who is having an upcoming induction what did you eat / do you plan on eating before being induced?

My DH talked me into going to an all you can eat Chinese buffet with DD. It was a waste of money, because at that point I couldn't eat a whole lot without feeling super full, and I was too nervous to eat anyway.

ETA: I had to be there at 6am the next morning, and couldn't eat after midnight.

Something you would be okay puking up later..just in case you feel sick from the meds or contractions ..something like PB toast or a protein bar would be good to keep you full for awhile..

Unless you have instructions not to eat, make sure you eat! You will need your strenght, so make sure you eat something that will give you a lot of energy.

You could be in labor for a long time.

I ate before I was induced.

I had a zucchini frittata two hours before I was induced (thanks Mom!!)  I didn't eat again for 17 hours so I'm really glad I ate beforehand.  I threw up, but it was liquid, I didn't blow chunks everywhere.  It might have been worse if I hadn't eaten.

I ate a bowl of cereal around 5 pm before going to the hospital to begin the induction process at 6pm.  Honestly, I was so nervous and excited that it was the only thing I could eat.  I was kicking myself the whole next day, though, because I was starving, not allowed to eat, and had packed a bunch of cooking magazines to flip through during labor---my son wasn't born until 11:24 pm on the day after I went into the hospital for my induction, so I went 30+ hours without food.  If I am induced this time, I will try to eat a normal meal before going in.

I would definitely eat first! I was at the hospital when I found out I was going to be induced and the first thing they did was order me a big dinner. I couldn't eat a ton, but was very happy as over 18 hours passed before DD was actually born. After DH was instructed to buy me a large reese's and something delicious for dinner Smile

I was told to have something high protein and high fat the night we went in for induction.  We ended up at Red Lobster because I was craving fish.  I did end up throwing up a couple of hours before DD was born, but it was basically liquid.

If I end up with an induction, I'll probably eat something unhealthy and terrible for me. Why? Because I'll feel like its my last meal and I'll want something tasty!

I go in tomorrow morning to be induced. (Due to my cholestasis) but they told me to eat a light breakfast, nothing heavy like eggs and bacon.  They are starting me on gel first so there is a good chance ill be able to go home and wait for things to happen.  But I think it all depends on how they are going to induce you.  Good luck!

With DD, don't remember what I had. With DS, my water broke but I had no contractions and they were going to start pitocin. Since it all happened mid-afternoon, and I hadn't eaten since lunch and knew it was likely going to be a long time, I asked to get dinner and my doctor said I could. I had a chicken breast, rice, and some green beans. Was going for some protein, some carbs, and bland food. I threw up a lot both times during later stages of labor and pushing, but I knew I needed the food for energy. Didn't want to be puking up anything really strongly flavored or colored (yuck).

I was not induced, my water broke on the day of my scheduled induction.  However, I went in to the hospital at 6:45 am and my son wasn't born until 12:21 am the following morning.  I didn't get to eat the entire time and I was starving!  I did end up throwing up, but with no food, it was only bile.  Honestly, I would have rather thrown up food.  I would suggest some carbs and proteins for energy.

Eat something DELICIOUS!!!! It will be a while before you eat. We ate at Beef O'Brady's and I had a side salad and a grilled chicken wrap with curly fries. I called it 'my last supper'. lol They started me with Cervidil and they said I could eat while on that, but I only ate light. Once they started the Pitocin, it was only ice chips and it was about 16 hours before I ate again so definitely eat something TASTY before going in! :) Good luck!

When I was induced with DD, we went out to eat on our way to the hospital... We decided to make it our last date night as just a family of two.  DH took me to my favorite restaurant and I ordered my favorite meal.  It's a nice memory for us both to have now.
