Need help with dilation!

HI LADIES!

I need help! I am a first time mommy, 38 weeks and 4 days today and just got back from my doctor. I am still 1/2cm and 10% effaced (this is what I was last week). My due date is next Friday. He said we could wait it out or we could look at induction.

I would like to try different methods to going into labor naturally. I know it's all up to this little girl and when she is ready to make her appearance, but I would like to know I tried a few things before biting the bullet and getting induced!

You're 38 weeks and your doc is already talking induction?

Um, no.

Natural induction isn't a science, some things work for some people, nothing works 100% of the time.

Pineapple, parsley, sex, driving down bumpy roads, breast pumping - these are all things that I was told to try and none of them worked for me.

You've got plenty of time for dilation, you're still a little less than two weeks from your due date - lots can happen between now and then.

This.

Most 1st time moms will go past due date.  Unless there is a medical reason to induce early , then I would start preparing yourself to be pregant for up to another 4 weeks.  Hang in there!

All the above suggestions are good ones.  I would seriously question your doc's suggestion to induce you if you haven't gone into labour spontaneously by 40 weeks (provided everything is normal with you and baby).  There's no reason for you to be 'on the clock' for induction if you have not dilated more by 40 weeks.  You are considered overdue by 42 weeks, not by your EDD.  There's a reason it's called an estimated due date.   Try all these methods and give baby and your body a chance to go into labour naturally before jumping on the induction train, would be my suggestion.

I would wait to get the okay from your OB.

Like you said, LO will come when she is ready but sometimes the natural induction methods can be harmful if done too early.

I am 40w5d and we just discussed induction at my appointment yesterday.

Ditto others.  Don't even start thinking induction, natural or otherwise.  No bullet to be bitten, you still have plenty of time.

The average FTM goes into labor at 41+1, you still have some time.  There are Old Wives' Tales as well as real things that could (naturally) promote labor, but there's a good chance at this point it would all be a waste because your body probably isn't quite ready.  I'd just sit tight for the time being.

Huh.  Did he describe medical reasons why you might want to consider being induced before your due date?

I'm confused as to why your doctor would be talking about inducing you already?

And I guess I'm just as confused as to why you would just "bite the bullet and get induced". Your little girl will come when she is ready - don't rush things.

Um, no.

This.  Exactly.

You have another 3 weeks before I would be talking about 'biting the bullet" and considering induction.  If at your 40-41 week appointment there's no sign of labor you could schedule an induction, but I wouldn't before that unless there is a medical necessity.  Remember too-being massively pregnant and uncomfortable is not a medical necessity.  I know it's tempting to have a date to get that kid out, but as a FTM you are VERY VERY likely to go over.  Just wait it out and keep saying no to the induction.

Yikes!  An induction before your EDD and you're not even favorable?  I wouldn't even entertain the idea unless there was a medical need!  Why in the world would you have to 'bite the bullet'?!  You've got plenty of time.

To answer your question you could start taking Evening Primrose Oil which will start to ripen your cervix.  Drink Red Raspberry Leaf Tea to tone your ute.  Having sex will help to get things ready.  Also I think acupuncture, coupled with chiro adjustment worked wonders for me last time.  But none of this will work unless your body is ready.
