Winter coat?

I can't fit into my winter coat anymore, what do you ladies do/wear as a coat? Did you buy a maternity one?

I can't bring myself to waste money on a coat that I'll wear for not even a month - so I've been getting by with my zip-up Columbia fleece. And a few extra layers on really cold days :)

I didn't buy a maternity coat, but I fit into my North Face fleece jacket and then my knee-length winter coat throughout my pregnancy (baby was born at the end of March).  They can be kind of expensive - see if you can find one second-hand so you don't have to shell out big bucks for a coat you won't wear very long.  Even if you're planning on having more kids you never know if you'll be pregnant in the winter again.

I bought a cape.  My bump fits fine in it, so will my post baby bump.  It will work all winter before and after baby.  Plus I will wear it again next year too.  : )

My first was born April 5, 2010 and I bought a maternity coat for $35 from Target... but that was almost 3 years ago. I'm due in 3 weeks, and if I didn't already have one, I wouldn't... I can fit into DH's fleece jacket (probably others of his if I tried) so I'd wear that, or go to a secondhand store. Sometimes you can find beautiful, but barely worn, items (you may have to search, tho).

See I'd be wearing the coat for at least the next three months or so and I def. can't afford that $300+ cape but it's a good idea anyway bumpie!

I've been hitting the thrift stores but the coat selections have been bad thus far. Layers are just going to have to suffice for now. But I DID find a maternity coat on oldnacy.com for $40..maybe...we'll see.

Well, you don't have to buy the one I did...  I got a Kohl's add in the mail and they have some cute ones there too.
We all have different spending limits.  My suggestion was a cape and I just posted a link to the one I bought.

It's definitely tricky not knowing how much bigger you might get, but maybe you can find an inexpensive, cute non-maternity coat and buy it a size or two bigger than you normally would? Its always nice to have extra room in winter coats to allow for bulky sweaters and scarves.

I also bought something like this...

http://www.lordandtaylor.com/eng/womensapparel-coats-capes-Fringed_Plaid_Ruana-lordandtaylor/186658

Since we do run so hot, it's perfect to wrap around you and add a scarf.

I can't hardly zip my coats anymore and I have to walk a couple blocks in the morning so I need one that closes.  lol I got a wool maternity coat from Old Navy for $40 when they had their 35% off coupon.  I figure I can even resell it since it won't be worn that much.

I just wear a hoodie under my open pea-coat. I'm not willing to buy a new jacket in a size I'll never wear after this pregnancy.

I am due January 14 and will not spend money on a winter coat.  Right now I am hot all the time anyway.  I plan to just wear my regular coats without zipping/buttoning them.

The only reason I might consider paying for a maternity coat would be if I regularly spent long periods of time outside such as walking from point a to point b or waiting for public transportation.

I'm wearing a coat my MIL used to wear when she was bigger than she is now.  It's the ugliest thing ever...but I don't care.  It's warm and it does up over the bump and it was FREE!

I am too hot to even want to purchase a coat. I just wear one of my husbands fleece jackets. They're too wide in the arms but fit me around. I take it off as soon as I get in a building anyway.

I wear an old fleece zipped up and then my winter coat over that unzipped. I'm not normally outside long enough for it to be a problem and if I pair it with a hat, gloves and scarf, I'm okay.

I bought a maternity pea coat last time from Target.  I think I spent $40 or less.  I'm glad I bought it since I can use it this time too.  I was working last time (and it gets really cold here!) so I felt like I needed something that looked nice and fit properly.  Right now I've just been wearing a fleece that I tend to leave open, but can still zip if need be.

I couldn't justify the expense since I'm due in 2 weeks. I've gotten away with buttoning the top button or two and if it is really cold I borrow my H's northface!

Im in the same position. Im due Jan 3, so i cant bring myself to buy one for just few months of use. I have a heavy button up pea coat. I button the top few buttons, and leave the bottom 2-3 unbuttoned to leave room for my belly. the coat covers my belly fully...i just cant bring those bottem few buttons together lol. Works great for me :)

Can you borrow a coat? I am borrowing one from my dad or brother (not sure which one it belongs to). I did the same thing when I was pregnant with DS. Otherwise I would suggest Target, TJ Maxx or Kohls.

I bought a cheap coat at Walmart for $20 in their plus sizes. Not normally plus size, but it's been cold here in Ohio already and I didn't think the $20 was too much to pay. Plus, I may be due in mid December, but I am not going to lose all that weight right away, so I figure that I can use it this entire winter and not feel bad about the $20.00 I spent on it.

I am just wearing my normal coat unbuttoned or zipped with a scarf. If I am going to be outside for long periods of time I borrowed a coat from my dad.

I bought a large coat (not maternity), but I can barely zip it up. I wish I would have just bought a maternity coat. I'm planning on having at least two more kids and I'll probably be pregnant during the winter again so it's not a waste IMO.

I'm in the minority but I definitely am getting a winter coat! I ordered mine from old navy on sale for 48 and I'm so anxious for it to get here. Layering just doesn't cut it in new York! It's already been super cold so I def wanted it before it starts snowing beyond the flurries we've already had!

I almost bought one but my edd is so soon that I'm just dealing with leaving it unbuttoned and using a scarf.

I'm due Christmas Eve, so I'm making due with an unbuttoned peacoat and warm knit scarf for the belly. Right now temperatures are around freezing, but I don't spend a lot of time outside, just with the dog. Once the snow comes ill switch to my big downfilled coat... right now it still fits, but if it gets too small I'll just snap closed where I can and use a good scarf for the bump. If I was due later in winter or had to walk to work, I would definitely buy a goodfitting coat, it gets cold here!

I bought a hoodie in a XL but I still couldn't zip it. Then I starting my husband's jacket. Its big around the sleeves, but it fits over my belly fine.
