New mommy..some questions

my baby girl will be 3 weeks old tomorrow(already?? really? lol) i am a first time mom and of course i worry about a lot of things. i could really use some peace of mind on some of the more worrisome things. Maddison seems like a happy baby, but I am a natural worrier anyway lol.

1. She was 6lbs 8oz when she was born she dropped to 6lbs 1oz by the time we left the hospital. When she went to the doctor for her first visit she was 6lbs. For her 2 week visit she had gone up to 6lbs 10oz but her pediatrician said that she was underweight, but when I took her for her WIC appointment they said her weight was great. I'm worried about her weight. I have to take her back tomorrow for a weight check, but I still would like to know if anyone else went through this

2. I am Formula Feeding due to the fact that I am not producing enough breast milk :( Maddison eats 2-3oz every 2-4 hours. I burp her after she has had an oz, but sometimes she burps all by herself, for example this morning my mom was feeding her and she burped while the bottle was still in her mouth and then other times I just move her and she burps. Also sometimes it seems like I can hear the milk going into her tummy. Almost like she has gulped it down. Is either one of these things normal? I have asked her pedi, but she really didn't have an answer.

 3. Her poopy diapers...They are runny and are greenish, browinsh, and yellowish. Does she have the diarrhea or is it normal? Also she poops almost as soon as she gets done eating..is that bad?

I would really love some input please.

1- No clue

2- If you think she is drinking too fast, you could switch to a slower flow nipple, but I believe the things you are describing are normal.  As long as shes not choking, I wouldn't be too concerned.  It sounds like your pedi wasn't concerned either.

3- My LO has soft, pasty greenish/brown poop-- she is FF.  This is normal.

1. My pedi said that their goal is for baby to be back at birth weight by 2 weeks which your baby was.  If your pedi says your baby is underweight, ask what they base that on.  If your gut says she's not eating enough, then you can wake her more frequently to eat, but you shouldn't have to do this for long.

2. It's great to burp a FF baby after each oz.  Also good if she burps on her own.  I think if she's gulping a lot and not burping up the gas, you'll hear it in her belly and she'll be uncomfortable and cry and kick her legs, but if you're worried, you can always try a slower nipple for the bottle, like premie.  (Watch to see if the slower nipple frustrates her though.)  If gas is a problem, you can try gas drops/mylicon.

3. That poop sounds normal to me, as does pooping when she's done eating. Sounds like you're doing a great job- relax!

Thanks so much. I am trying really hard not to get too freaked out, but sometimes I just need some advice.

1.  Her weight is fine - the generally accepted rule is that they want the baby back up to birth weight by the 2 week visit, and your baby was 2oz over her birthweight at that visit.  Try not to stress about it, as long as she's gaining weight, she's most likely fine.

2. All normal

3. Sounds normal for newborn poop.  As long as the poop isn't black or white, it's normal.

My LO is 20 weeks and I am still paranoid and always have tons of questions! hehe

1.  My LO was 7lb 13oz at birth.  By the time we were discharged she was 7lbs.  At her 1st dr's appt at 5 days she was still 7lb.  It was so hard for us to get her to put on weight. It turned out she was tongue tied and once her frenulum was cut she did start putting on weight.  It definitely took us longer than the recommended 2 weeks for her to put all of her birth weight back on but it happened eventually. Every baby is different and as long as they are producing enough pee and poop diapers then it's okay.  LO is now 14lb 2oz and in the 54% for weight. :)

2.  Yes, I can hear LO swallowing when she's eating. As long as she isn't choking then that's fine.  That's great that she's burping on her own throughout the day, too!

3.  LO's poops vary from peanutbutter greenish to runnier seedy yellowy looking.  Trust me, you'll know when it's diarrhea!  It'll be just like brown water, literally!  Also, if it seems like she is pooping more than she's eating then it could be diarrhea but if that's not the case then you're fine.  LO's all have their individual poop schedule. I've seen some who poop everytime they eat and others like to go constantly in the bathtub (like mine! hheeh) or right after a bath.

Hope this makes you feel better :)
