2nd time or more moms, exhaustion question

How did you deal with the exhaustion and taking care of your kids? I'm super early so I don't think 1st tri exhaustion is fully hitting me yet but I've been feeling so sluggish and just all over tired. By the time 3 comes I am losing steam and at 5:30pm I'm on the couch and so tired.

I would love to just pump myself full of caffeine but that isn't an option of course.

I am not as exhausted this time as I was with my first. I do drink one cup of coffee a day to help during the work day. If I'm tired at home, DH usually just lets me rest on the couch while he looks after DD.

I'm really struggling and I'll be totally honest, in the last 2 days DS has probably had more tv/ipad time than he ever has in his life. He doesn't nap anymore and quite time is a joke which is why I've been turning the tv on.

I have found though that as long as I keep myself hydrated, fed and Zofraned (lol) then taking DS out of the house does a world of good for both of us. I can take him to places where I can give him a bit of freedom and just sort of chill on a bench (toddler room at the kids museum, toddler playground, children's room at the library, etc.). That's been helping.

It's really tough....this is baby #3 for me and my other two are older - 8 and 6.  But it's just a different type of busy.  Working full time and then the evenings are full of their activities and homework.  DH works quite a lot, so a lot of the time I'm doing the running around.  I have to have a 3:30 coffee or I don't make it through the evening......I had forgotten about how tiring this is.....

Staying busy in the evenings would help but cold, windy and icky weather is here so outside isn't a choice and we have nothing for kids activities around here.

I actually ended up falling asleep for 10 minutes until DS woke me up. Totally not intended. I probably should look up nonmessy activities for us to do inside in the evening to keep me moving. I'm also feeling like a craap mom since I've been so tired.

I would have some caffeine mid afternoon but this pregnancy has made my heart arrhythmia act up a lot more and caffeine makes it so much worse so I've been steering clear.

I'm with you.  I've been feeling a little tired and preparing for the worst to still come.  I've been trying to push through it when we get home and go to sleep shortly after DD goes down (at 7:30 lol).

Up late tonight to see the election results!

I just listen to my body (I'm pregnant with #5) and if I need to lay down then I lay on the couch and watch the kids or read books (or have them read to me). I have found the crockpot to be a lifesaver for dinners (Crock'n Girls have an amazing cookbook on Amazon).

DS usually takes a really good nap, and thankfully it usually coincides with my early afternoon exhaustion.

My house is kind of a mess, but I need that nap.

I feel sick ALL day so I am on the couch just about all day.  I am also exhausted bc not sleeping well.  I have a 8 yr old.  My hormones are raging and it is sooo hard not to bite everyone's head off.  I just hope some of these symptoms pass soon.  We haven't told him that I'm pregnant bc he has a big mouth and will tell everyone, lol.  I wish I could explain to him why I am so moody!  I've been letting family take him more often then usual to help.

The tiredness really hit me hard this week!  I work full time teaching college and this semester I have afternoon/evening classes, which is so hard!  I'm having an extremely difficult time getting through each day, so I'm just counting down the days til the end of the semester!!!  I quit coffee over the weekend, and I can really tell the difference.  I'm hoping once my body adjusts to no caffeine, I'll have a little more energy.

I have 4 kids in the house - 11, 14, 16, & 18.  I've been lax about chores for a long time but I'm planning on starting chores again.  Even if it's something small each day, like unloading the dishwasher or taking out the trash, it would be a huge help.  The boys (14 & 18) already do their own laundry which helps a ton.

It has been so long since I was pregnant, I forgot how tough it is!

I allow myself one cup of coffee early in the AM. 8 oz

That said I am still pretty freaking exhausted at the end of the day. This and sore boobs are my only real symptoms.

Honestly I have no idea. By 5pm I am dead but I just soldier on because there really isn't an option. Sometimes, if I am really desperate, I'll have one cup of coffee.

I'm with ya, there, lady!  I have one cup of coffee in the AM, but by the time the late afternoon hits, I'm exhausted and ready to call it a day.  I try to get all my to-do's done during my caffeine buzz so that when that time hits, I can just relax.  I have a 3 year old stepson whom I watch during the day, and a 4 mo LO who is teething and becoming more and more active.  I'm 6 weeks along, and it can be tough (however, I don't feel like I've hit my full fatigue stage, yet)!  But I gotta deal, so when the kiddos are taking their afternoon nap, so does this mama :)  Then, when my lovely hubby comes home, he helps with the kids so that I can relax from the crazy day or finish getting my tasks done.  When I just need a break until he does come home, my 3 year old loves puzzles and watching movies. And while I feel bad that he gets so much more TV time than usual, if we both benefit by a little down time, its a win.  With my 4 mo old, however, she requires more attention because she's just growing so fast and going through so many milestones, right now. I endure through my fatigue because I'm afraid to miss anything!

My advice: take it easy when you can.  Indulge in one coffee (or your choice of caffeine) a day at any point you choose to help.  Relax/nap when the kiddos do.  Take advantage of hubby when he gets home, and take some downtime for yourself.

Most of us are in the same boat, so take comfort that there are ears to hear and advice to be given.  :)

Honestly, I'm almost 15 weeks and still exhausted! :(

I am still drinking coffee but its 1/3 of what I usually drink which ends up being less than a half of a cup. If I'm having a really bad day I end up drinking a Coke (maybe once a week) because Coke has a fraction of the caffeine that coffee has but enough to get me over the hump... But then my pregnancy insomnia is worse that night!

I have been napping almost every day during DD's nap.  She takes one for a good 2-3 hours every afternoon (16 months old), so I try to lie down then even if I have stuff to do or I'm not that tired, because I know I won't get a chance to later and I won't make it through the day without it.
