Group B Strep UTI

Has anyone else even told they have to treat their Group B Str in the first tri?  This want on my radar, and while I was so researched my lastly, this one I have gone with the flow, but with a lot more bumps in the road.  I already had a yeast infection at 4 weeks that required OTC med (miconozole 7) which I was reluctant to take, and now I'm on 7 days of amoxicillin for a UTI caused by Group B Strep.  I was skeptical bc I haven't noticed any of the normal symptoms of a UTI, but now after checking the mayoclinic website I'm apparently high risk for passing the Group B to my LO with some serious complications.  Most of the stuff on the bump only referees to the third tri test, but I guess the came up on my urine test during my prenatal screen.  I'm only 10 weeks now.  Anyone else had this come up in the first tri?

I always stayed with UTIs and never showed any symptoms, the only reason I knew was because they tested for it. My LO came out healthy too.

Ugh! Sorry for the terrible autocorrect and lack of review on iPad.  "anyone else ever been told....this wasn't on my radar....I researched everything during my last pg..."

Any words of advise or comfort welcome!

Also, I had a c-sect with my DS, and was still undecided about a RCS or trying for a VBAC, but this may be one vote swaying toward another c :(

your dr. should give you antibiotics through IV during your delivery to prevent your baby from becoming ill. Taking antibiotics greatly decreases the chances of your baby developing early onset group B strep infection. They should test you around 35-37 weeks to see if you come back positive.

Do not panic about this, it's absolutely no big deal. 1/3 of all women carry GBS in their body. Once you have it, it's always there. I had it with DD, I received antibiotics while in labor and had a vaginal delivery. They tested my urine with my 6 week prenatal labs with this baby and it came back positive for GBS. They did try to treat it, per protocol- but it didn't really do anything, it was still there when they tested it at 9 weeks. I just saw my OB yesterday and he said it's not harmful to the baby or to mom during pregnancy. During labor- they don't want to risk you passing it to baby during birth, so they'll treat you. Truly- no big deal.

I'm not sure why they tested you so early.  From what I understand the levels go up and down- this is why they test you late in the 3rd tri.  You could have it right now and it could be gone by the time  you are ready to deliver.

I had group b strep with DS. I think I was tested in 3rd tri. When I was induced, they had me on a penicillin iv until DS was born. He was born healthy and no problems.

Because its a uti and needs to be treated. OP, during my m/c pregnancy I tested positive for it at my first appointment. They gave me antibiotics and said that they would not do the third trimester screen bc since I've already had it once during the pregnancy they would want to treat it with IV antibiotics at birth. Don't stress, it's totally normal and a lot of women carry it. I am guessing most if you are being screened at every visit for this as well as many other utis. They can
Be asymptomatic in pregnancy which is why they always test.

I agree with the others.  I had it with my second pregnancy and was unable to get the antibiotics in time.  I only labored for 2.5 hours the second time and was at the hospital for 15 minutes before my daughter arrived.  The baby was monitored for 48 hours (in my hospital room) and she came up with a clean bill of health.

Of course try to get the IV before this baby arrives but don't stress.

I just tested positive for it at my 13 week appointment, it showed up in my urine test.  My doctor seemed pretty laid back about it and just said that they would put me on antibiotics when I go ino labor.  I am allergic to penicillin so I have to make sure they don't put me on that.  Other than that, she didn't tell me that I should be doing anything until its time to deliver.  I'm seeing other women saying they were put on antibiotics during pregnancy though because it can be dangerous for the fetus but that's not what my doctor told me so now I'm all confused.
