Mrs.Deputy:
I've been giving a lot of thought to posts like this over the last 12 hours. I respect the fact that all of you are excited, as you should be. It was, however, a close race (in popular vote, anyway), and half the country is concerned right now, so instead of the "Yahooo, we wonnnn, and woooots", maybe explain why you're excited, so Repubs and Romney supporters can understand where you're coming from. I know there are a lot of people out there reading this that are disappointed. I also don't think the "our lives are OOVVVERRR, I'm moving to Canada" posts are helpful. There's always monitoring both sides with bipartisanship in the house and senate. I'm worried because presently, the two sides don't just disagree, there is HATE out there...and we're nowhere if we aren't United. Anyway. Thanks for reading!
Both sides have been presenting their sides for weeks, if not longer. Are there people out there who don't understand why someone voted as they did, even if they don't agree with the logic, and who don't understand why Obama supporters are happy with the outcome? Would it really be news to Republican supporters if the OP had said "I'm so thankful Obama won because I support same-sex marriage/access to abortion/the Affordable Care Act/whatever"? I have a hard time picturing a Romney supporter reading the above statement and thinking, so that's why people voted for Obama. Interesting. Maybe I should learn more about Obamacare. I really hate the other side a lot less now.
I'm not trying to be snarky at all because I do agree with what you said about there being a lot of hate out there. Which is awful, and I'm all for eliminating that. I just think that many people are happy that the time for debate is over and don't feel like explaining their vote over and over again. And I suspect (or, at least hope) that most people are already educated about the issues, and as such, listening to Obama supporters explain why they are happy he won won't change many Republicans' minds. Who here hasn't heard both sides present their case?
Well said Annabelle.
And Mrs. Deputy, if I had wanted to have a discussion at 10PM on why I am happy with the results I would have. But that is not why I made this post. It was a close race, so when the result was announced, I showed my excitement on my home board. And yes, there are people that are disappointed...so that means that people that are happy can't show that because they don't explain why? If you want to start a discussion on that, go ahead and do so.
And yes, I would have shared my intense sadness if things had gone differently.
Just like with the point of this board, there are different opinions. You are not always going to see ones that you agree with. But a lot of the time there are many people that agree with you.
