Confusing Cycle Changes

Good Evening Everyone! I am a newbie here and this is my first post ever on a forum board. I have been TTC with my husband since 03/12. I am seeking some advice regarding my cycles and have done a little browsing but don't see anything relating to what I am experiencing.

I'll try to keep this brief, and please excuse me if I don't use "proper" terms/acronyms/etc. I promise I'll read up on all of it tomorrow after some rest :

I have always had regular cycles, and stopped taking BC in October of 2011. We used condoms as a backup until March, because I wanted the hormones out of my system. From Oct to June I had 30 to 35 day cycles. My husband works overseas and is gone for 3.5 months at a time, and home for 35 days in between. We actively tried to become pregnant from March until he left in June with no success. He just returned home again in late September.

I am certain it was stress/excitement for his homecoming, but I had a 50 day cycle that started August 10 and stopped September 28, after my GYN prescribed progesterone to bring on my period. I am now on day 39 of my current cycle and no sign that AF is coming anytime soon.

I am frustrated because my periods were 100 percent normal the entire time he was gone until literally the week he was scheduled to come home. I think I feel pressured to become pregnant because we really only have one chance every 3.5 months, and both of us are ready and excited to start a family.

I have heard of charting and am interested in learning more about that. I also would like to know if anyone has ever experienced a sudden change in their cycle regularity when beginning TTC. I feel like my body is betraying me by getting all out of whack when it "matters" most. :

DH leaves again in a week, and if it turns out I am not pregnant now, I would like to know what I can do to get to know my body better over the next few months while he is away to better our chances of getting PG the next time he is home.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to read my novel, and again I apologize for thee length of my post. I promise they will get better as I get the hang of this! :

I suggest that you start charting, temping. That way you will know when and if you are ovulating.

Good luck!

I have always had regular cycles, and stopped taking BC in October of 2011.  The regular cycles were caused by BC - just something to keep in mind.  It wasn't your body keeping you regular.

I am frustrated because my periods were 100 percent normal the entire time he was gone until literally the week he was scheduled to come home. I think I feel pressured to become pregnant because we really only have one chance every 3.5 months, and both of us are ready and excited to start a family. Your chances are that because that's all that he's home?  Every 100 days or so?

I have heard of charting and am interested in learning more about that. I also would like to know if anyone has ever experienced a sudden change in their cycle regularity when beginning TTC. I feel like my body is betraying me by getting all out of whack when it "matters" most. :

DH leaves again in a week, and if it turns out I am not pregnant now, I would like to know what I can do to get to know my body better over the next few months while he is away to better our chances of getting PG the next time he is home. Well, you can get to know your body better by charting.  It won't help you get pregnant unfortunately - I mean, he'll either be home during your fertile time or he won't.  Charting will be able to give you a really good clue if his leave is during your fertile time or if you missed it.  So at least you'll have information, but since charting doesn't CAUSE your body to ovulate, it will only help explain when/if you've ovulated.

A 50 day cycle isn't completely unheard of.  So charting will help you know if you did ovulate late in that cycle or if it had been 50 days with ovulation.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to read my novel, and again I apologize for thee length of my post. I promise they will get better as I get the hang of this! :

My cycles became more irregular the longer I have been off BC. I would chart so then at least you know what is going on and aren't wondering if you are 'late'. Good luck!

Welcome. As PP have said, try charting. Temping, checking CM, and OPK's (which I will be adding next cycle, after this cycle's craziness), will give you the best insight into what is going on with your body. I suggest using them all right away. I didn't and know I regret it because my chart is a mess right now.

Fertility Friend is a great site, with a charting course to help you with interpreting, and inputting data.

Also, read the newbie link, there is a ton of helpful info in there as well.

Good luck!

OP, I feel ya. I didn't chart prior to TTC but had never had a cycle longer than 32 days. I am currently on CD33ish and the previous two cycles have been 35 and 43 days. I didn't ovulate until CD28 this cycle. I haven't found a good way to regulate. Trying acupuncture but obviously it didn't work this round.

I promise to never forget that this little dude deserves just as much love after the baby comes as he has now.

Jeffsjayme, thank you for your response. I had regular periods for 9 months after coming off of BC. Would it take that long after stopping for my periods to just "decide" to become irregular?

And yes, we only have a shot every 100 days or so, because he's only home every 105 days. It's a real bummer, because his job now is allowing us to have secure finances and that is what made us decide to start trying for a family. But, it also means that we don't have as many chances to try to start a family. His job is very similar to the military he was in the USMC for 4 years so I am used to him being away for long periods of time, but when it comes time to start trying to have a family, it's tough!

I will definitely check out Fertility Friend. I think I didn't see the "Newbie" post because I am accessing this site with my mobile phone. I'll have to take a look when I get onto a computer later.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I really appreciate it!
