I don't think mine is irrational, and I don't care what my husband says: spiders.

Is anyone EVER happy when you see a spider coming down from their ceiling on its little thread to peep you out? Scary. And had happened to me way too much.

Water. Especially if I can't see the bottom. Most especially the ocean. I feel like a monster is going to grab me and pull me under. I can't even snorkle, as much as I want to. I start to panick as soon as my face goes in the water!

Birds.  I hate them.  They flap their wings and scare the crap out of me.  Any kind of bird - big, little, pretty, ugly - I don't care.

blood tests. great phobia to have when TTC, right? I have been getting better and have done 2 so far through this process but it's still hard. I fainted when I was younger and had one, which sparked by phobia. just thinking about it makes me light headed!

Historical and scary movies (omg that is so embarrassing to type) If I don't know the exact content of a movie I can't watch it. I get to anxious I always feel so bad when I am with a group of friends and we want to see a movie I have to explain that I cannot handle certain content.

Embarrassment. If there's the slighted change it'll end with someone laughing at me, I just don't do it. I've had several therapists try to help, but it's still just as bad. I even have panic attacks when someone else is embarrassed.

Birds. I'm terrified of them. If they're in a cage, I'm okay. But free flying is out of the question.

Reptiles. Hate them. When we vacation in Mexico there are iguanas all over the place and DH knows they freak me the hell out.

Also not being able to breathe freaks me out. I haven't been able to complete my scuba certification because when I have to let water flood the mask I freak out.
TTC since August 2011, Me = 39, DH = 37. CD 3 bloodwork: Normal, HSG 3/29/12: tubes clear, DH's SA 3/29/12: Everything normal. Unexplained IF. Tried Clomid for 3 cycles. All BFNs.BFP 1/6/13. Chemical pregnancy.

I am terrifed of two things:

  1. Clowns (Especially the one from the movie "It") - Something about the way they have smiles painted on their faces even while doing things that cause them pain.
  2. Mascots - Totally embarrassing but something about an overgrown gigantic cartoon character or animal just freaks me out.

I don't think my fear of swarms of ants or things that remind me of swarms of ants is irrational. A friend and I, about 3, were playing and wandered into a large fire ant hill. We were covered head to toe by the time our parents got to us.

Other fear is Zombies.

When you say, "historical" do you mean movies like Gladiator or The Duchess? Period pieces? That interests me and I'm sorry that you get so freaked out. 

I'm with you on scary flicks. I tried watching Pet Sematary and Halloween on Halloween and I just couldn't do it, yo. Slasher flicks or zombies make my skin crawl. I used to be able to do it, but I can't anymore.

I had a friend who was the same way lol. When took the kids places I would have to put the ketchup on things for them lol...she would gag.

I am terrifed of haunted houses or hayrides. It stinks because part of me wants to enjoy them but I know I will scream like a little girl so I just cant do it!

Arachnids: spiders and ticks (this sometimes overflows into all bugs), total darkness(the indoor type cause in my experience you're never totally in the dark outside) and people. Large crowds will send me into a panic attack if I can't see an exit strategy or if strange people touch me, even a little touch like brushing my shoulder accidentally.

I have a phobia of being trapped. Not claustrophobia per se, but if I'm in a traffic jam I get panic feelings.

I have a strong phobia of heights. I can't go to Football games anymore because my vertigo gets so bad in the upper levels seats I can barely funtion.

My worst case scenario. Traffic stopage on the Chesepeake Bay Bridge. It is just so high and when there is traffic there is no where to go. I just got chills typing this.

Me Dx: Weak Ovulation / Total Thyroid Removal
DH Dx: Mild MFI (borderline all 3), Varicocele
TTC#1 since 5.11
Clomid 50mg + TI = Poor Response
Clomid 100mg + TI (x2) = BFNs
Clomid 100mg+IUI#1 (5.6M Post Wash & 1 Follicle) = BFN
Surprise BFP on 1/20/13 EDD: 9/25/13 It's A Girl!!

I third darkness. There's a string of caves near where I grew up & at one point they shut off the lights to show you what it's like. It's horrible. I have to close my eyes.

I like sleeping with a night light, but DH prefers total darkness. We put a night light across the hall & sleep with the door open as a compromise.

I can't stand spiders, even pictures of them make my skin crawl.

And scary movies.  I get nightmares really bad.  One time DH tried getting me to watch a scary movie, I tried, I ended up crying and begging him to turn it off.  It was embarrassing.

I can't snorkel either! It's really weird, I swam competitively for many years and it's not that I'm afraid...it's like I can't breathe. Sometimes I "snorkel without the snorkel" - just swim around with goggles and fins, haha. DH thinks this is so bizarre.

 

Otherwise, I have a paralyzing fear of heights.

I'm afraid of heights, but I don't think it's at the phobia level.

I did have a phobia of flying insects because I was stung by a yellow jacket when I was a toddler. I think that's calmed down into a fear as well.

Snakes and spiders, but those are both pretty rational.

ETA:  My irrational fear is walking over any kind of grate for fear of it giving way and me falling through the hole. I avoid stepping on any grates in sidewalks for this reason.
