CLE and other PCOSers

I have a question about the diet you're sticking to... what have you found that 'works'?

I have been struggling so much of late and it is getting really frustrating that it is so darn hard to lose weight!

Are you cutting carbs? Eating healthy overall? WW? My fitness pal? Help!

I am not overweight, but have gained about 10lbs since going off BCP. I was dx with PCOS, and so I am contributing it to that. I have been restricting my calories and trying to cut back on carbs for the past 6 weeks, and I haven't lost ONE pound. It is pretty frustrating. I had no problem losing weight if I wanted to when I was on the pill.

I am curious to see what others say as well.

I'm doing WW...there is nothing I am completely cutting out, I just try to stay within my points.  Everything in moderation.  I have a diabetic cookbook on my Nook that I keep meaning to go through and find some good recipes but other than that I am not doing anything special.  Though maybe I should be, I don't know.

This summer I went 'balls to the wall'. Worked out every morning - fairly intense. Cut most crap out of my diet, didn't drink much and I lost three pounds. It was so discouraging that I went right back into crappy habits... I don't know what to do!

I have tried WW before - no luck.

Right now I am tracking calories on My fitness Pal.. we'll see!

ETA: I am not incredibly overweight but I probably need to lose 20 lbs or so...

When I was first diagnosed with PCOS, I met with a personal trainer and a dietician.  Easy for me to do - I work for one of the world's leading exercise science researchers who just so happens to specialize in metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance research.  So, my personal trainer and dietician are co-workers who have PhD's.  Yay for me!  After a few weeks of keeping food logs, we discovered that I actually don't eat enough calories each day and very little protein, so most of what I do eat is not processed correctly and stored as fat.

Now, I start every morning with a protein shake that includes banana, low-fat organic milk, and a handful of spinach.  I've learned that I cannot eat carbs unless I eat an equal amount of protein.  I eat the protein first so I fill up before I eat all of the carbs.  I hate veggies, so that makes things difficult, but I just make myself eat at least one green thing at every meal.  The thing that has helped me the most is that I try to make myself drink a gallon of water every day.  In addition to being healthier than soda and sweet tea, it's really helped clear up my skin which went nuts after I stopped BCP.

I'm on the herbalife diet. I drink healthy protein shakes twice a day and eat a regular meal. I usually lose about .51 pound a week which is healthy and easier to maintain. Overall I have lost 32 pounds over a year and a half. After I get to my desired weight I'll drink one shake a day to maintain my weight. Herbalife shakes are also safe to drink while pregnant. I hate to sound like an infomercial but this is what has worked for me.

I have PCOS and the only thing that worked for me was cutting sugar and "white carbs." I moderately worked out just to give an extra boost. I also made my lunches a little heavier and my dinners lighter. Before my son, I was really happy with the results. I have just started getting back on the horse. I have 20lbs as well.

And my one big rule is never to make anything unrealistic, cause then I set my self up for failure. If I need a cheat, then I need a cheat! I would just have less pizza or pasta or whatever.

My cysts are all gone, but I had PCOS and I'm trying my darndest to lose weight. I'm doing Slimgenics, which is only available in person in a few states, but is also available online.

It has very few carbs/starches, and works really well. Before I got PG last winter I lost 30 lbs in 1.5 months. I have lost about 8 lbs since going back on it loosely in the last few weeks.

A week before I ovulated I started a Low Glycemic Index diet. It's probably coincidental, so I can't say that's why I O'd. I don't really eat bread anymore, I don't eat white rice and I don't eat pasta. In the first week I lost 4 pounds (2 more this week). Read up on the Glycemic Index. You need carbs, you just need the right ones.

I exercise 4-6 days a week (spin, running, Zumba and elliptical) too.

I am not overweight but have been a pretty healthy eater and gym rat for years and was recently dx with pcos. I'm the "thickest' one out of my family and have always been the one watching what I eat and constantly staying active.. frustrating. No matter how hard I diet or workout I still can't loose in a couple of areas. My Dr said that had I not been working out and eating right I would probably be bigger than I am. When I was DX in August I cut out all carbs that were not whole grain and lost 5 lbs in the first two weeks. My body has since seemed to adjust back to my normal weight and won't budge. I'm annoyed with it because I am also a huge sweets and bread fan... I cheat here and there but have cut back a LOT. (Even though I never really ate a whole lot of it) My cycle also changed a lot this past month and I'm wondering if it's because of how I ate. I always start my day with an almond milk protein shake.. not that I can say it helps as I've done that for about 8 years now. The only carbs I allow myself are oatmeal, popcorn, and brown rice. Sorry I'm not of much help... good luck!

I have PCOS and I am constantly trying to lose 15 lbs. I don't think it will ever get easy. I have lost 10 lbs in the last year. I credit walking TONS more (1-2 hours everyday) and MyNetDiary (which I prefer to My Fitness Pal). Ditto to what PP have said about getting enough protein and cutting back carbs.

I've cut out a lot of fats and processed foods. Mainly because it would tear up my stomach now that I take Metformin. I haven't noticed a huge change in my weight, but that's probably because I've been neglecting the gym Embarrassed

I don't take any of the supplements and usually use 2 canisters of shake mix which equals around 80/month. I have a really bad gag reflex and can't take pills very easy without getting nauseous thats why I don't take the vitamins and supplememts. Let me know if you would like more information.

When I saw an RE to confirm my PCOS diagnosis, she suggested eating low glycemic index foods. My PCP suggested South Beach diet, which is based on the glycemic index. Both times that I've gotten my BFPs have been within weeks of starting South Beach diet (and losing some weight), So, yeah, I should probably get on it again! Even if it is just coincidence, doesn't hurt to try it. I am about 30 pounds above my ideal weight per my height, but would be happy to lose 15-20!!

I think I am going to start trying to follow the GI/South Beach. I want to feel healthy and right now nothing that I've tried has done that.

This morning I had two egg whites with tomatoes, mushrooms, onions & spinach. I think I can get used to that!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts & experiences. I really appreciate it.
