When I was first diagnosed with PCOS, I met with a personal trainer and a dietician. Easy for me to do - I work for one of the world's leading exercise science researchers who just so happens to specialize in metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance research. So, my personal trainer and dietician are co-workers who have PhD's. Yay for me! After a few weeks of keeping food logs, we discovered that I actually don't eat enough calories each day and very little protein, so most of what I do eat is not processed correctly and stored as fat.
Now, I start every morning with a protein shake that includes banana, low-fat organic milk, and a handful of spinach. I've learned that I cannot eat carbs unless I eat an equal amount of protein. I eat the protein first so I fill up before I eat all of the carbs. I hate veggies, so that makes things difficult, but I just make myself eat at least one green thing at every meal. The thing that has helped me the most is that I try to make myself drink a gallon of water every day. In addition to being healthier than soda and sweet tea, it's really helped clear up my skin which went nuts after I stopped BCP.
