Ergo Carrier - Infant Insert or Blanket?

I just received the Ergo carrier that I ordered today and have not quite figured it out - think I'll have the hubby help to adjust all the straps.  My daughter is only 6 weeks old. I read a few posts on here regarding using a blanket instead of the infant insert.  Can someone explain how that would work?  What is the purpose of the infant insert?  I'm guessing it's because their little legs can't be spread out so wide?  Thanks!

I use a rolled up receiving blanket instead of the insert. I roll up the blanket, fold in half, and then fold again. Stuff it at the bottom of the ergo and DS "sits" in it fetal type style on top. His feet done hang out yet.

Infant insert. A blanket seems sketchy to me.

You can use a blanket. The purpose is to help keep their knees above their bum. That's the secret to any good carrier, knees higher than bum so their weight is actually on their bum and they're not hanging from their crotch. Think sitting in a hammock vs a rock climbing harness.

If you YouTube it there are many good tutorials on how to use a blanket in an ergo or you can look on The Babywearer. There's tons of good info there too. Good luck and happy Babywearing!

This. The infant insert has 2 parts, a little pillow and a cocoon that has an adjustable strap.  A blanket can not provide the same funionality.
