Yes, another hospital bag post

Ok, so I am putting the final touches on my hospital bag.  I have all the main things you need, comfy pants, shirts, slipper socks, soaps, deodorants, chapstick, puzzle books. etc...

So, what are some of the other little things you wish you had last time.  I am going shopping tonight for anything else needed.  Also, what did your husband pack, or what did he wish he packed?

What did you bring to keep yourself busy?  Am I allowed to bring hard candies? I can always send my parents out for things needed, but I would rather be prepared.

I brought only Chapstick and bathroom stuff and my husband brought underwear and bathroom stuff. That's it.

I wish I brought more snacks for DH. We were there for 5 days and that's a lot of crappy cafeteria food. I took sugar free hard candy. I was glad I brought my own pillow from home.

I brought way more than I needed last time.  As long as you have your bathroom stuff, other clothes (if you want to wear them instead of a gown), and something to go home in for you and baby, you'll probably be fine.  I brought a deck of cards to use during the early stages of labor, but that was about it.  Once the baby arrived, he kept me more than busy :)

I was really glad a friend recommended the Ponds wipes for washing my face. Once they broke my water( early AM) and started the catheter/pitocin I was unable to get out of bed. It was nice having a clean face in the morning and after my delivery.

Also, we brought the ipod and laptop so we were able to check e-mail/facebook, etc. and have music while waiting for things to progress.

Bring your own toilet paper! The TP at the hospital is rough and you'll want a little tenderness.

We brought a bag of assorted chocolates (Hershey's Nuggets, Dove, etc.) and put them in a bowl for the nurses and doctors to help themselves to when they came in/out of the room. We left the leftovers (which weren't many) at the nurse's station when we left. We had a few nurses popping in "just because," offering extra help, and post-poning some of the post-partum checks (that they do constantly) so we could get a little more sleep. It was REALLY nice and everybody seemed to appreciate the gesture. Even my doctor hung out and chatted with us through the last hour or so of my labor, rather than resting in the on-call room (water broke at 2am and DS was born at 11:00 pm, so it had been a REALLY long day for everyone).

I brought magazines but never had down time so never even touched them or my hospital bag until I got dressed to leave the hospital.

Last time, I forgot nursing pads. I had lanolin but when I used it, it stained my bra. Even though my milk hadn't come in and I wasn't leaking, it would have been nice to have them. 

I'm also bringing nursing shells this time. My nipples were just so freaking sore! Shells prevent clothes from touching them. 

I was never bored in the hospital. This time I'll probably bring my iPad, but I doubt I'll use it much. I don't even think I turned on the room's TV last time, between holding DD, learning to nurse and having visitors I was just way too occupied.

I brought a Glade glass cube thingy that smelled awesome.  I am big on smells, and it is nice to have your room smell nice, especially when in the hospital. 

Some simple snacks, like trail mix in individual packs, crackers and cheese, stuff like that for in the middle of the night.
