Napping/Human Pacifier

I know each baby is different, but my 11 week old was on the perfect 3 hour EASY schedule, however, was only taking 30-45 min. naps. Well now for the last week, I get him to go down for 20 minutes, but he isn't lasting the three hours. He eats (falls asleep while nursing because his schedule is off) and then is awake for about an hour and goes down for about 20 minutes and back up at least 30 minutes before he eats again. This time that he's back awake I know is what is causing him to fall asleep while nursing, but I can't get him to stay asleep and I put him down when he's sleepy, so I'm not following a clock but rather following his cues. He's sleeping 5-6 hours at night so it doesn't seem to be messing up that schedule.

Any tips on how to get him back on schedule or what I can do? I keep the room dark, turn on his noise maker we use overnight, diaper change, rock for a bit, and put down drowsy. I can't have him falling asleep while nursing because I don't want to become a human pacifier...

You are a human pacifier though...you are the real thing! :) Don't believe all the hype about no rocking, no nursing to sleep yada, yada, yada.  I nursed my son to nap and to sleep every single day and night for 9 months straight and he is fine.  he is currently 27 months old and we still rock him to nap and sleep every night and he sleeps all night long.  He can also put himself back to sleep if he wakes up.  A baby is ready, when they are ready.  We did do Dr Ferber's method at 5 months though...and worked like a charm.  Look it up if you are interested in it...it isn't for everybody, but it does work most of the time.  Of course we didn't follow it 100% b/c of the nursing and rocking to sleep.

I cherished those moments and miss nursing him to sleep...it is amazing.  I was his pacifier...he was ALWAYS latched to me...while it can be annoying at times, but this is what babies are suppose to do.  My son would not take a fake pacifier.  Just let your son nurse whenever he wants and if he will only sleep after nursing...then so be it.  Remember...they are only young once.

Good luck!

That would all be fine of i didn't have to go back to work and he wasn't starting daycare. I'm just worried that he's going to be way over tired and not getting all he needs if he doesn't sleep.

I worried about that too...I returned to work full time when my son was 13 weeks old.  I was worried he wouldn't take a bottle, cry all the time, never sleep, etc..  Amazingly though...they adapt so fast.  My DCP said he was great!  Feel asleep right after his bottle and after he really got use to daycare...he was very easy.  He knew how to act there and knew how to act at home.  It will all work out...promise.

**Also let me add...please do not do Ferber until your child is between 4-6 months of age...never before.  I didn't say that in my earlier post, I forgot.

most babies fall asleep while feeding. My daughter dose it at least five times a feeding but when she wakes i feed her more until she doesnt want it anymore. it seems to work since she takes three or four hour naps durring the day and has started sleeping ten to twelve hours at night and shes only two months old. Shes fed on demand rather then based on the time though i do try to feed her every three hours sometimes its just easier to feed her when shes hungry then listen to her cry for two and a half hours.

This too...always feed on demand...best for baby and for your own supply.  :)
