Anyone else concerned about getting dehydrated?

This sounds like a first timer question but it has been so long since my FB that I don't remember.

This week it seems that I have been having problems with what I consider extreme ms.  I can't even keep water down.  It has been 3-4 days since I was able to drink anything without giving it back right away - and that includes my usual tea or ginger ale.  Yes, it is worse in the mornings but it lasts all day.  I am constantly thirsty and worried about dehydration.  Does anyone else have this concern?  How are you handling it?

I tried to call the OB and ask but his office is closed today.

I have been like this since week 4, I can not keep most food or liquids down, I was diagnosed with HG though. I go every few days to get an IV for fluid, but baby is still doing well, even though I lost a lot of weight.

add pedialite to your drinks. I used to work on the medical team for a division 1 football team and we did this to there stuff to rehydrate them. also what sickness is going around ur area. Here in indiana is a vomit, diarea sp for a few days then a horrible chest cold that turns into a sinus infection. Its gone through my bff, coworkers, and i have been off the past week with it. Goodluck.

Thanks.  I will give predialyte a try.  So far, the creeping crud has been going around the schools but I am not exposed to children.  The only thing going around with my coworkers is a cough that seems to get worse after it rains.

Does your doctor's office have an emergency line you can call? Or maybe you can get a hold of your PCP to see what they suggest? I wouldn't let this go over the weekend, especially because some offices may be closed on Monday in observance of Veteran's Day.

Hope you feel better soon!

Even with my 2 close encounters of being hospitalized, hydration was far from my mind. All I cared about was feeling better. The 1st time it happened, I didn't eat or drink for week and finally I got a rx for dicletin and the 2nd time I just took gravol

I am, but not because I'm sick. My OB said I was dehydrated because of my urine, and said dehydration could lead to contractions. So I'm downing the H20. I was also noticing that skin/vagina had been really dry and I was getting nosebleeds. Since paying attention to water intake, those have disappeared. If you're that sick, I'd call your doc and see if they can write you a prescription for nausea.

I had a lot of trouble getting water down during my first trimester, I just ate a lot of moisture intense foods. Various melons and other raw fruits and veggies can actually make up a significant amount of your daily hydration if straight water or other pure liquids are causing an issue. I kind of base my hydration off of how often I pee, if the frequency drops then I get worried and increase my moisture foods or not I increase water intake.

I've had Hyperemesis with both pregnancies and dehydration makes nausea so much worse! If you are really concerned about being dehydrated you can either go to the clinic or urgent care and ask about getting IV fluids. I had to be on IV fluids (2 bags a day) for about 11 weeks. If you aren't at that point I would suggest making yourself take sips very regularly even if you're going to throw it up. The hope is that you will retain some of it. I know for me I couldn't drink any water, the only thing that stayed down at all was lemonade. Test a few options and see what works the best for you.
