STM+++++ Doctors visits

I was told by MFM and then later by my NM that I will have 2 visits a week after 30 weeks. Has anyone experienced this? I don’t have a clue. Why would I need to visit so much? TIA

Yup, it's typical to go monthly until about 30ish weeks and then it's biweekly, then weekly when you get to 36 weeks.  It's just how they do it.  I'm assuming they just feel it's super important to be monitoring how you're measuring, blood pressure, etc. at that point.

For me it's after 28 weeks, so yeah, starting at 30 weeks, every 2 weeks, then at 36 weeks every week.

Not a second time mom, but my doctor starts bi-weekly appointments around the same time (28 weeks) , I think it's pretty standard.

Wait, 2 visits a week, or a visit every 2 weeks? Are you a high risk?

I'd definitely get clarification. 2 visits a week seems extreme. I'm a FTM, but my OB said the standard was a visit every 2 weeks starting at 30 weeks, and then ONCE every week starting at 36 weeks (I think).

Her OP reads that she will have two appointments a week, not one appointment every two weeks...

are you going to be doing non stress testing? I have to start going 2 x's a week around 30-32 weeks for non stress testing. I am high risk for preterm labor, delivery, and placental problems, and I have a baby measuring in the 6th percentile. Since you are seeing an mfm I would assume you are at high risk for something and they want to do non stress tests????

Up until 32 weeks it is monthly for me, then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks and then weekly after that.  I have no idea why twice a week appts at that stage would be needed unless you are high risk.

yes that's normal. Monthly until 28-30 weeks, then twice a month until 36 weeks, then once a week until 40 weeks and twice a week (if needed) until 42 weeks

Oh- I read OP wrong.  If you're not high risk, I'd guess you misunderstood or the person telling you this mispoke.

I stay on monthly visits - with weight, blood pressure and scan - till 36 weeks. Then every week till due date. Then every 2 days till delivery if I go overdue.

This seems normal to me. My MFM (maternal fetal medicine) doctor told me the same thing. I am extremely high risk so once I get to that point I will go in to see her 2x a week also. At that time, I will also be visiting my regular OB once every 2 weeks to make sure everything is okay. It is A LOT of doctor appointments but they keep telling me that two sets of eyes is better than one. Good luck to you!

I would get clarification, two appts a week seems a bit much if you are having a normal pregnancy. However, maybe it is just that one week? Is there a special test they want to run?

I start seeing my OB every other week after Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to it because it means that the end is in sight, lol :D

I must be high risk I  guess? age, weight, and blood pressure. My pressure was a little high last visit. Thanks ladies!

I was doing non-stress tests twice a week, starting around that time. If you're high-risk, that would be my guess. Why don't you ask?

I would ask for clarification. 2 visits a week is excessive unless there is a specific problem they want to monitor. I had high BP last time and had one visit a week at 30 weeks instead of every 2 weeks to monitor BP, but not two a week.

Hmmm.. are you sure he didn't say a visit every two weeks, which is normal after 28wks for every patient. 2 visits per week is definitely excessive if you don't have a concerning issue going on that needs regular monitoring, which you don't mention in your OP and I'd assume you'd be aware of that were the case?

Did they say biweekly?  Because that can mean every 2 weeks.  But I agree with PP that you should just ask for clarification.

Standard is visits every 2 weeks from 2830 weeks on. Visits 2 times per week may be deemed necessary if you are high risk and they want to make sure you and baby aren't developing issues.

I think it's pretty much standard procedure everywhere. You have monthly visits until 30-ish weeks, then you go every 2 weeks, then every week once you hit 36 weeks.

It's only normal to do closer monitoring as you get closer to your due date.
