Alimentum or Nutramigen users come in

Have you had trouble with your little one not gaining on either of these?  Since switching LO's formula to the Alimentum, he is not gaining weight...which is a huge problem because he was IUGR to begin with and only in the 3rd percentile.  We were doing pretty good with weight gain on the regular Similac formula...almost doubled his birth weight of 5 lbs in first two months.  But since we switched 2 weeks ago he has had pretty much no gain...maybe a couple of ounces at best. We are also having a major problem with "snacking" (see post below) where he only eats an ounce or two and then will be hungry again in an hour.  Before the switch, he would goble down 4-5 ounces at pretty much every feeding.

The reason for the switch is that we were having spit up, reflux and colic like symptoms.  The pedi didn't know if it was acid reflux or milk protein allergy so she put him on the prevacid and switched him to the alimentum...but I am more and more thinking the problem might have just been the reflux.  The symptoms have he was having have pretty much gone away, but now I'm worried about weight gain.

Our little girl was recently put on Alimentum and Zantac. We've been having stomach issues since she was born. We haven't had a doctor's appointment since the switch, but have one coming up on the 23rd (I believe). Therefore, I can't answer the question about weight. Just from looking at her, though, it appears that she has gained length and lost a little bit of her belly. We just went through a growth spurt, so that could be why.

She, as well, seems to have started "snacking" on the formula, except at night. She will suck her bottle dry then, but only takes between two and three ounces at a time during the day (usually). Personally, I think her problem is reflux and not a protein sensitivity. She was still fussy on the formula until she was prescribed the medicine. I'm going to talk to her doctor at the visit to see if we could try a different, less expensive, formula. If we have to pay for it, I don't mind. However, if it's just the medicine helping her then I want to switch to a cheaper formula.

No. It's been fine for us. All three kids used it as babies. DD2 is still on it, and she's growing lots! In 9 month clothes at 3 months old.

both of my kids were (are) on it.

ds#1 was IUGR, but he gained well on it.

ds#2 is starting to slow down his growth (born in 60%, now in 30%) but he is still quite in the normal range.

I have heard that weight gain is slowed and more at the same rate as a breast fed baby on Alimentum and Nutramigen. We haven't switched yet but may have to switch soon.

DS has had slow weight gain and we've been on alimentum since 3 weeks.  The original weight gain issues were due to low milk supply.  He gained when we switched (and I started EPing to supplement), but we also started him on Zantac the same day.  Don't know which is what fixed it.

He gained and then stalled out again when starting daycare while transitioning, but he'd also started STTN, then. We were told to start waking him once per night and concentrate his formula more (3 scoops per 5oz) and he's gained fairly steadily since then.  He's also since been switched to Prilosec.

I'm also not sure he's really got a protein allergy, but nervous to rock the boat.  No snacking, though.

I used Nutramigen for DS #1 and it didn't slow his growth at all.
