Cramping

I am a FTM and I know I sound like a total crazy. I was just wondering how normal this is.

Last Monday I began cramping directly to the left of my belly button around 8 or 9 am. It was more uncomfortable than anything, but was kind of painful. It lasted all day, until I finally called my OB at 1:30ish. They went through all their questions and whatnot and then told me to come in. Went in, heard the heartbeat, and had my cervix checked. Was then scheduled for an u/s on Thursday to measure the length of my cervix. As far as I know (since I didn't see a doctor) everything looked fine and the u/s tech said my cervix was nice and long.

In the meantime I suspected a UTI and went to urgent care on Saturday. They put me on amoxicillin and I am hoping that is working. However, my cramps have not stopped. They are not constant like they were Monday, but they are still there. The OB just suspected my uterus expanding, but I haven't talked to or heard of very many mommas out there who had cramping.

i sometimes get pain which is the round ligament pain the always talk about....and when the baby sometimes cuddles up in an area of my belly it cramps too so wherever hes at its hard. Then i get the occasional braxton hicks but nothing serious. Hopefully your cramps are nothing too. :)

Cramps are completely normal

Everything you experience in pregnancy is normal unless you're excessively bleeding and your limbs are falling off

I've gotten cramps that lasted all day, too. Often, they were brought upon by exercise. My OB said menstrual-like cramps are completely normal and are, like you said, are due to the the uterus expanding. You're not alone, I didn't know cramping came with pregnancy either!

Your ticker says you're 16 weeks?  It was around 15-19 weeks that I had the WORST ligament pain.  I actually went into the OB twice in a total panic (I'm also a FTM) but both times I heard the heartbeat and my cervix was completely closed.  I then started getting this weird, and quite painful, aching in my vagina (sorry for the TMI) but I've since had my 20 week ultrasound and everything looks completely normal.  Around week 20 it started getting better and I suddenly started showing a lot more!  If your cervix is closed and looks good in an U/S then you probably have round ligament pain.  It never hurts to call your OB and go in and check though!  Oh and drink lots of water.  Staying hydrated seemed to help it feel better.

I thought of RLP but isn't that more of a sharp pain that happens and then is done with? I have had those, but this just kind of lasts.

That's what I heard too.  I also heard RLP was only off to either the right or the left.  Mine was dead center most of the time and lasted so it was nothing like what you read about if you do a google search for "round ligament pain."  However my u/s was normal, baby's heartbeat was normal, my cervix looks like it's supposed to, and I've heard from other bumpies who have had similar experiences so I can't imagine what else it could have been!  Remember it's OK to call your doctor anytime you have a concern.  For me, going in and hearing the heartbeat and hearing that my cervix was A-OK helped me a little.

I'm a FTM as well and am 17 weeks, 4 days. Last night, my stomach started hurting, right underneath my belly button and stemmed all the way from the left to right side of my stomach. It feels like gas/period cramping. My doctor told me at our appointment on Saturday that my uterus is RIGHT under my belly button. I'm assuming it's just my uterus growing and ligaments stretching. I've been able to tell before when my belly is growing/stretching. This morning, I woke up sore in the same area. It is probably just your muscles & ligaments stretching. If it continues after you finish your UTI meds, I'd contact your Dr. again just to be sure. :)
