Teething Question

My son just got over a terrible cold and was finally sleeping through the night again. Yesterday he and I both got our flu shots (his second) and late yesterday afternoon he developed a runny nose and was rubbing/pulling his ear. I went out last night and our sitter texted me at 10 saying he was up (not upset just up) and playing, which he never does-waking up in the middle of the night. Anyway, she told me when we got home that she gave him a teether and he went to town in it. He slept awful last night, didn't nap well today and had a runny nose and was fussy all today. I'm not sure if he's teething ( since he won't let us feel in his mouth and I can't really see anything when he does have his mouth open) or if he may have a cold/ear infection. I've had a couple friends tell me their kids usually will pull on their ears and have a runny nose when their babies are teething. Anyone have this happen? I'm thinking I'm going to call our pedi Tuesday if it keeps up. TIA!

Yes those can both be signs of teething. They can also be signs of an ear infection, so if you don't see any teeth coming you might want to get it checked out. You should be able to feel a bump if there is a tooth coming in.

My daughter has 4 teeth trying to come in right now and we have the same symptoms. It happened with her first 2 teeth too. She also has much messier diapers when teething.

All signs of teething, especially if your sitter said that about going to town on a teether!

Our pedi said very simply, because DD pulled on her ears A LOT last month, if LO is not waking up in pain or irritation and pulling at their ears than it isn't an ear infection. I guess with ear infections it is the worst and hurts the worst while laying down because the fluid pools.
