Irregular Periods and TTC

Hi everyone!  I am new here and wanted to introduce myself.  My hubby and I are very excited to start TTC.  We started trying mid-October, but we obviously missed that month and tried again in November.  I am on day 29 of my cycle, which is a day late for me, I think.  The problem is years ago before I got on birth control I had very irregular periods.  I have been off BC for 2 and a half months now, so I don't know if my period is actually late this month, or if I'm returning to an irregular pattern.  I have taken two negative tests so far, but still no bleeding!  Wish me luck and/or pray for me that I might be pregnant and know next week!  Share your advice if you have/had irregular periods while TTC!  Smile

Welcome!

Definitely check out the newbie link at the top of the page. It's got a lot of useful information. Also, as a lot of ladies here will recommend, you might want to consider charting your basal body temperature with a site like fertility friend. It takes most of the guess work out of when you're ovulating so you don't wonder why your period is "late."

Welcome, here are a few things that should help:

- read the Newbie link at the top of the page

- Start charting your BBT using Fertility Friend

You probably ovulated later than you think and so your period isn't really 'late'. I had irregular periods before the pill too. Start charting, this will help immensly. Even if you are somewhat irregular, you can pinpoint when you are Oing and time sex better. Plus this will give you a good picture to see if anything is actually wrong. Good luck!

I've always had irregular periods too. I agree with the others about charting your BBT and mucus. I don't think it's necessarily harder to TTC with irregular cycles, but it does require a bit more vigilance and patience. Good luck!!

1 day does not make you irregular. Christ, the stupid is starting early this week.

1 day difference in your cycle does not ever make you irregular. Ever. Any female over the age of 15 should know that.

Oh boy. Can I offer some more advice? If you're planning on hanging around here, quit while you're ahead. This is a great site and you'll learn lots, but you're not going to get puppies and rainbows thrown at you every time you post. You're going to get honest answers and you may not always like what people have to say.

After BC pills you can have super long and irregular cycles. Especially if you had them before BC pills. This was me, basically!

I recommend you start charting next month. Or even now...there's a chance you still haven't even ovulated yet. And read the newbie link for tips. :-)

A 1 day difference in your cycle is leading you to freak out that you are going to go months without a period again?

I'm not sure how you think we can help you with irregular periods, or what you will be able to do if you get them. Plus if you've had irregular cycles before, you should be used to it, not sure what there is to fear, you just have to work a little harder to figure out your fertile times. Be proactive and start charting so you'll be able to tell when you O. And don't come onto a board full of Internet strangers and expect them to coddle you through a question that didn't really need to be asked, if you've experienced irregular periods before you already know, or if you'd at least done any research or reading of your own you'd have already seen how silly it is to freak out over being 'one day late'.

I also have very very irregular periods. I highly recommend temping and charting with FF. It is the only way you're going to be able to track your temp spikes and possible Os. There also is tutorials on the FF website that are very helpful with how to chart and what certain moves in temp could/don't mean.
