Notice a difference with Gerber GS-Gentle?

After going through screaming, crying, projectile spit-up sessions the last few nights, the on-call doctor at our pediatrician suggested that our LO is having trouble digesting the milk proteins in Similac Advance. She eats well during the day, but does spit up during and after each feeding.  It's the nighttime feeding that is terrible for all involved. He said that by the evening her system can't take it anymore and she is in a lot of pain.  According to him, babies can't tell the difference between a stomach ache and a hunger pain, so that's why she'll want to eat, even though she's in pain. We were told to give her pedialyte throughout the night to give her tummy a break, which she took well.  Then, we started using Gerber Good Start Gentle formula this morning.  She ate less than normal and was basically playing with the bottle (which I think is curiosity too), but was generally happy.  She still spit up like she normally does during daytime feedings.

FYI: She's 12w today and eats anywhere between 4-6 oz every 3-4 hours - bottles are 4oz formula, 2 oz breast milk, but there's a limited supply of breast milk left (I had to stop pumping and I've been using my frozen supply).

Anyone have experience with this?  Has Gerber Good Start made a difference?  I wonder why this is suddenly getting worse now...

Yes - DD is extreeeeemely gassy.  She was taking Similac Advanced in Avent bottles.  After her first few weeks, I switched to Gerber Good Start - Gentle in Dr. Brown's bottles w/ Gripe Water added.  She is still gassy but not miserable.  Hope the change helps your LO!

DD started on Enfamil Newborn in the hospital, our pedi switched us to Gerber Gentle, she spit up a TON and was scream in pain gassy, we switched to Gerber Soothe, still spit up a ton, added gas drops, still a ton... then we tried Similac Sensitive. She spits up not nearly as much as she did. We still add gas drops. She does have a lot of gas still but it doesn't bother her. I would recommend trying Similac Sensitive. If you signed up with them during your pregnancy they probably sent you a sample. Good luck!!

Thanks for the responses, ladies.  I called the doctor with some follow up questions, and another doctor in the practice told me to try Alimentum because he doesn't think that Gerber Good Start is different enough from Similac.  I ended up trying Alimentum with her and she HATES the taste.  I'm just at a loss.

The doctors and nurses in the practice all seem to have different opinions, which I understand since it's hard to decipher what's going on with a little baby.

We're going to try sticking with Gerber for now, and if I need to try something else, like Similac Sensitive, then we'll try that.  I'm seeing from your stories and from other research, that it is a guessing game and we have to find what is right for us.

Maybe I'll figure this girl out by the time she's in college!

give the Gerber GS Soothe a shot. And i think the dr that said the similac and Gerber arent different is wrong. DS projectile puked on similac and enfamil, was gassy with Gerber Gentle and is on the soothe now and is a completely different baby, hes a wonderful happy baby now.
