I wouldn't get too worried about it. DD didn't start making "words" until 9 months, maybe half way through she really started to do the whole babababab thing and it very quickly involved into her saying and understanding Mama and in 2 months she says mama, dada, the occasional mommy and daddy, bear, milk, gabba (Yo Gabba Gabba show), up, bye bye, hi, kitty, goey (cat's nickname), and Diego (it's our cat's real name... this one is the best because it's she says it so perfect in her little baby voice!).
She's 11.5 months old and super chatty!
