Multiple Sclerosis

Any pregnant mommies out there who have MS?  I've been having numbness, tingling and burning on right side that keeps progressing.  I saw a neurologist Friday and he ordered cervical spine and brain MRI and found 4 spots of inflammation (1 on my spinal cord & 3 in my brain).  Sending me to a maternal fetal specialist to go over side effects and how to treat.  My doctor said it's hard to treat outbreaks during pregnancy, I'm a little scared and overwhelmed right now!

I am sorry to hear about your difficulties. MS is tough enough to cope with when you are not pregnant. Luckily, I am healthy, but a girlfriend of mine has MS and worries about her ability to have children.

I wish you luck. Just try to relax as much as possible and focus on staying as healthy as you can. Stress will only make things worse. Sorry I cannot offer any MS specific advice.

I am and I do.  Outbreaks are not too difficult to treat during pregnancy.  You can still have steroids, which is what they would do even if you weren't pregnant.  I had one relapse during the first trimester when I was pregnant with DS, but it wasn't too serious so I decided not to do the steroids.  It went away as soon as I hit the second trimester.

So far this pregnancy, there have not been any relapses.  Were you diagnosed before getting pregnant or is he just now diagnosing you with MS?  If this is new, stay calm.  MS is different for everyone, but a positive mindset goes a long way.  I've had it for 8 years now and I still do half marathons and triathlons, even while pregnant with my second child.  My brother is worst case scenario with MS, but he was never on disease modifying medication (he was diagnosed 20 years ago).

Please feel free to PM me if you have questions and again... stay calm and enjoy your pregnancy...it will be ok.

I've was diagnosed with MS 10 years ago and have since carried and given birth to 2 babies. I felt great during my 1st pregnancy but my symptoms worsened after delivery. My new baby is 3 months old. I had lots of flares during my second pregnancy but have felt great since having him.

Good luck and PM me if you want.
