Overfeeding?

I feel as though I am overfeeding my LO. My pediatrician had told us to do 2-3 oz every 2-3 hours.  She is eating about about every 2.5 hours and is taking all 3 oz.  In fact sometimes she takes another .5 oz on top of that.  She never seems to be satisfied and I am afraid that I am over feeding her.  My husband seems to think so and I am getting worried.  We do have a doctors appointment today and I do intend on bringing it up.  I am just wondeing what others think.  She is three weeks old today.

DS did that too. He's 5 weeks today and on to 4 ounces regularly and sometimes up to 6.  I think some babies are just hungry. Our pedi wasn't worried at all, we saw him last Friday for his one month. I think as long as she's not spitting it back up regularly, you are probably fine. DS is right on target for growth.

My pedi told me to let your LO determine how much they eat. (Mine was the same way.) If she wants more after she has finished her bottle, then I would offer her a little more. The book Baby 411 shows the below range of liquid they should eat per day based on age.

0 to 2 wks is 15 to 24oz

2wks to 2mos is 17 to 32oz

2mos to 4mos is 21 to 40oz

Hope this helps!

OP, let your baby eat as much as she wants! She could be going through a growth spurt. My baby wanted to eat every half hour at about 3 or 4 weeks old, and he grew a lot that week!

my daughter is the same way. shes eating about 6 oz ever 3-4 hours now. sometimes after feeding her the 6oz she starts crying for more so we make another 2 and she eats it. we let her determine what she needs and try not to worry about it as much anymore. the dr. wasnt concerned about it at her last appointment. Sometimes when she needs a bit more I just think shes going through a growth spurt. If she would spit up or vomit after feeding then we would know she ate too much and so far she has only done that once so i would say as long as she isnt spitting it all up afterwards than you are not overfeeding her.
