Estrogen levels through the roof...

Day 6 of stims (well, I've done 5 days, I do my shots at bedtime) and my estrogen was in the 2000s.  I don't really know the ins and outs of what that means, but know that my RE is concerned and dropped my Gonal F from 150 units to 37.5 units and is having me come in for daily blood work.  She mentioned that we may need to freeze and do a FET later.  I'm really hoping the levels drop and we can go ahead with a full cycle this round.

Anyone had this experience or something similar?  I'm scared :-(

Hi there,

I haven't experieced this but I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're scared. Big hugs to you.

It may be that your RE is worried about Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS) which isn't a good thing. I know a couple of gals on this board have done the retreival and frozen the embryos for the next cycle because of OHSS concerns and have gone on to have healthy babies from those cycles. I know it's frustrating to be making so much progress and than have the doctor mention canceling mid-way through the cycle but your health is their main priority!

Hoping the lower dosage does the trick for you!

I used antagonist, so I was able to use a Lupron trigger and prevent OHSS. I did have high e2 as well, but it wasn't an issue.

High estrogen should mean that you have lots of great follies growing in there, so it's really not a bad thing (except for OHSS). I would ask your RE what their cutoff is for needing to do a freeze-all cycle. This varies a lot from RE to RE, but most are in the 4000-5000 range.

If you do have to do a freeze-all, don't be disappointed. If you are able to do a 5 day transfer, pregnancy rates are actually higher for FET than fresh. One of the likely reasons is you don't have nearly as much stress on your body. Good luck!

I was in your EXACT same boat, actually.
By Day 3 I was over 1000, day 5 I was over 2000, then I started going up 1000 A DAY. We tried tweaking my meds, and then ended up just coasting for days 8-11. I got to trigger on day 11. My estrogen had finally hit a plateau and dropped slightly (but was still scary close to 6000). We triggered with 5000 hcg instead of 10000.

Since I was physically feeling fine and showing no outward signs of OHSS or high estrogen, we went ahead with the 5dt.

Just stay calm girl! I was told once my numbers hit 3000 that I needed to start the OHSS diet, high sodium, all that jazz. I'm actually still on it now because OHSS could rear it's ugly head if I get a bfp (and I'm actually showing symptoms today, so a call to the doc is in order when I get home).

DX all goes well!!

This cycle, my RE was really nervous about my e2 and talked about the possibility of a freezeall ... I triggered after 8 nights of stims with an e2 of about 5,200.

He said the decision would depend entirely on how I felt. I was really bloated and distended the day of ER and the day after, but since then I have been 100 percent fine. We transferred this morning ... Remains to be seen whether that was a good decision, but currently I see no reason why not.

Sometimes, they just don't know. Numbers are a great indicator but don't tell the whole story, you know?

Fingers crossed for you!!

yeah, there she was ... like disco lemonade ...

Thanks ladies.  I have no idea what's going on, but I'm a wreck all over again, after a few days of feeling like myself :-(  I just have to remember my "one day at a time" mantra and try to remain calm.  I DO have a lot of follies, 20+ to be more specific, so I'll try to think positive and appreciate the insight and crossed fingers :-)
