Flu Shots Make Me Crazy

Ok, so I got mine today - preservative free from Rite Aid.

But here is what makes me nuts - everything says it is important for pregnant women to get vaccinated.  My doctor agreed and so do all my nurse/PA friends.  So I put on my big girl panties and did it (I hate vaccines, but had to do worse ones last year for Africa).  And actually, I am going commando for as long as I can do to some other issues, but that is neither here nor there :)  Anywho, I got it, all is well, and then I googled the brand name and it says it is a category C and should only be used in pregnant women if clearly needed.  Googled another brand name and got similar results.

I tend to over research and over think things, but this is so annoying.  Honestly if it is important, say that.  If it is not, say that.  But it would be awesome if everyone could say the same #@!$ing thing!

I am just not going to worry about this.  I make myself crazy(er).

End of rant.

Expecting our second baby on February 7, 2013. Trusting Him whatever comes our way.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011 at 20 weeks. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

Category C doesn't mean "bad", it just means sufficient research hasn't been done to move it up the list to B or A. Considering the flu vaccine changes annually, I doubt it will ever be able to be moved out of the Category C range, but, in general, the flu vaccine is considered safe. They just can't test it fully enough each year to give it a higher ranking.

Obviously, getting the flu shot or not is a personal choice, but I've gotten the flu shot every time I've been pregnant before and my kids get it. I trust the doctors and my own experience has given me no reason to worry about it.

I got the flu shot, and got one for my DS. I chose to wait until 2nd trimester, but not really for any huge reason. My doc said it was safe at any time during pregnancy. To me, getting very sick with the flu would be far more detramental to the baby's development than the shot.

I'm with you on the conflicting info :(  It's rough trying to figure out what's right/best/healthiest. I'm not a fan of vaccines, either, so I'll be opting out of the flue shot this year (like I do every year). Most women who do get them have healthy babies, so take consolation in that. What's done is done, and you're doing the best you can. That's all anyone can ask :)

Don't make yourself crazy! :)

Dr. Internet didn't go to med school. I bet your OB did. Not everything you read online is true...or accurate. Your doctor thought you should have it: what else do you need?

Great advice all around and I love the Dr. Google did not got to med school :)

Thanks ladies.

And to clarify, I am not anti-vaccine, my baby and any future children will be getting vaccinated.  I am just personally neurotic about taking meds of any type....it is very weird and I wish I was not that way, I just get a lot of anxiety around it.  I have no idea why....and it only started in the last 3-4 years or so.  I was a ton of fun getting ready to go to Africa with the vaccinations we had to get and malaria drugs :)

I hope everyone has a great night!

I am thanking myself for getting the flu shot last month. My husband brought home something from work (i'm guessing the flu). Luckily I didn't get it or i'd be sick as a dog right now. He's still recovering from it, he has a sinus infection still and its been 2 weeks. Last year I think he got the flu as well, and ended up getting pneumonia because of his suppressed immune system.
