Need an opinion.....

I'm not having a baby shower but I would like to have something to welcome my new baby. So I decided I might just have a dinner celebration, invite some close friends to go out to a restaurant to celebrate the new baby. How does that sound?

If you are talking about after baby is here, like a sip and see or something, yes go for it.  Though a restaurant is probably not a good idea.

If you are talking about a celebration of your pregnancy, that seems kind of awkward and might be misinterpreted as you throwing a shower for yourself.  I wouldn't.

I personally would rather go to someone's home and meet the baby, you can mingle with other guests, etc. At dinner parties at restuaurants, you can only talk to people across you or next to you. Besides resturant atmosphere is usually loud for a new born.  If you can host something small at your house or a relative or a close friends house, get a cake and some drinks, some snacks, it will be both cheaper and more interaction between your friends and the LO.

Great as long as you're paying.

If you host the MTB at a restaurant then you are going to pay for the guests food. If you are ok with that then go for it.

I'd rather host a MTB or sip n see at my home.

If you invite people to a restaurant for a celebratory dinner, great but you'd be paying for them.  It would probably be more practical to host a party in your home.  You don't want to pass a newborn around a table at a restaurant, it's much easier to manage introductions in a home.

Am I the only person who didn't expect people to want to celebrate my uterus?

Every uterus is special and deserves to be celebrated!

So the "something" should be a meet and greet at your home after the baby is born.  Very simple.  A few snack foods.  A couple beverages.  Easy to set up and clean up.  You don't want people to stay too long (trust me on this one) and you don't want to have a major clean up afterward (trust me on this one also).

But a dinner to celebrate the baby before he/she arrives?  No.  That is just weird and unnecessary.  Your baby will be celebrated once it arrives...not before.  (And I'm sorry you are not getting a shower...that can be a bummer)
