Almost as bad as a FB invite

This is for those who think it's poor etiquette to have a baby shower after the first child...

I opened my work email first thing this morning, and found an invitation to a co-workers baby shower.  It was sent to all 300 employees and another 40 managers.  Thankfully she's not throwing her own shower, but this will be her 4th child.  The logic used by the email sender was that this person organizes a Christmas party and has helped with a few retirement parties, so she deserves a party.  Really!!???

I could see using this as a reason if they were specifying no gifts and just having it be a celebration in her honor.... but yeah 300 people? No thanks!

Gifts were mentioned too!  The person throwing the shower said,"I will also send notice of where she will be registered, so we know where at what to get her for gifts."

This. Although, I even think just chipping in for the cake is a bit much. A card would would be more than enough.

Yikes! Frankly, if I was the mom-to-be, I would be so embarrassed that she did that (if I didn't know about it). 300 and to the managers!

There's no way you could possibly even know that many people! Even for a FTM you can't be that good of friends with 340 people.

Why is she registering for her 4th child? What more does she need?

Also, when/where is this shower going to be held? I wouldn't really want to see 300+ people outside of work for a baby shower.

I'm getting ready to have my second child and I'm having a shower....but the catch is...there are 9 years between my older child and my baby...

So maybe, possibly, might want to think about the other side of that coin before you get too critical...

And also, in a case where she is working and this is was not a planned pregnancy and she already has 3 other children...she and her hostess might also be thinking that a lot of people aren't even going to come...they send ''courtesy'' gifts or cash so they can avoid being in an awkward situation with someone they barely know or just get out of going altogether...

Not to mention that after 3 prior children using and abusing what she has, the equipment and furniture is probably worn out or just plain destroyed by now...

I'm not saying it's right....I'm just trying to understand....

And that is exactly why it's super tacky. You should never invite someone you barely know and who would feel awkward coming just so they send cash. That's borderline extortion.

The person sending this email may just assume she is registering, but the lady night not actually have a registry.
