Got my protocol!

I had a saline ultrasound and mock embyro transfer today.  Everything went great!  I have 14 follies on the left and 10 on the right.  The Dr. was very pleased.  I also got my protocol and injection instructions.  I will start Lupron on Wednesday, Follistim on the 27th, and Menopur on the 29th.  ER will be sometime later in the week of 12/3, and ET 3-5 days after that.  Whew!

Now the dilemma.  We are on opposite pages about whether or not to freeze extra embryos.  I feel dumb for never talking about this before.  I guess I assumed that we were on the same page.  We're going to have a lot of tough conversations over the next couple of weeks!

Good luck.  What is the argument against freezing extra embryos?  
Me: 39. DH: 41. TTC since 2009.
FSH: 9.5 at highest. AMH (11/2011): 0.9. AFC: 10ish. HSG: Normal. SA: Normal.
July 2011 - Feb. 2012: 2 Clomid/TI cycles; 3 injectables/IUI cycles. Good response but BFNs.
Dec. 2011: Laparoscopy (clear) + hysteroscopy to remove uterine polyp.

April 2012: IVF #1: FSH 9.2, AFC 7-8. Antagonist protocol.
Started stims (300iu Gonal-F, 150iu Menopur) 3/28.
Added ganirelix 4/1. Trigger 4/5 (7 follies). ER 4/7: 7R, 0M, 0F. :-(

Nov. 2012: IVF #2: Long Lupron protocol.
Started Lupron 10/27. AFC 10+. Started stims (300iu Follistim, 150iu Menopur) 11/8.
Trigger 11/18 (7 follies). ER 11/20: 9R, 1M, 1F. 3dt of my one 6-cell embie on 11/23: BFN.

Dec. 2012: Hail Mary IUI cycle with leftover IVF meds: BFN.

Feb. 2013: IVF #3: Estrogen priming protocol.
Pre-AF: estro patch + ganirelix. AFC 8-10. Started stims (450 Follistim, 150 Menopur) 1/28.
Added ganirelix 2/4. Combined Lupron/HCG trigger 2/10 (6-ish follies).
ET 2/12: 6R, 1M, 1F w/rescue ICSI. My embie didn't make it. :-(

July 2013: DE IVF #1

PAIF/SAIF/PA35 welcome.

I'm not really sure yet.  We only had time for a very short conversation in the parking lot afterwards in which he stated he was not open to it.  He has been very very slow to warm up to IF treatment of any kind, so I think the appointment was very overwhelming.  We'll see what future conversations bring.

I get my protocol on Wednesday!!  I should be just a couple days behind you.  

 

Hopefully, you guys can sit down and talk about the freezing and come to a decision you are both satisfied with! 
Me: 28; DH: 35 1/2008 -- Started TTC
3/2009 -- FD discovered at 17 weeks
1/2011 -- Lap and HSG reveal Stage IV Endo and both tubes blocked.
4/2012 -- Consult with RE for IVF#1 -- All bloodwork and SA are normal -- Repeat HSG - SURPRISE! Both tubes are open.
May, June, August 2012 -- IUI#1-3 -- Letrozole + Bravelle + Ovidrel trigger = BFN
9/2012 -- Lap#2 to remove endo and Hysteroscopy

IVF#1 (Long Lupron) -- 12/6 ER - 20R 11F * 12/11 ET - Transferred 2 excellent blasts *
Beta #1 79.7 * Beta #2 240 * It's a GIRL!!

Me; 35 DH 32 TTC for over 2 years First mini-IVF Sept 2011... Only 1 egg! ... BFN Switching RE IVF#2 May 2012 9 eggs and only 2 sperm, WTH! BFN IVF#3 Chemical... FML. 2 frosties. SAIF/PAIF ALWAYS WELCOME!!!!!

Me 37 MH 40 - TTC since June 2010 - dx with Severe MFI. Straight to IVF with ICSI. IVF #1 - ER 06/13/12 - 9 Eggs Retrieved - 4 ICSI'd - only 2 fert. 06/15/12 - 2DT - 3 cell & 6 cell with fragmentation. Beta 06/29/12 - IVF #1 = BFN. 07/20/12 - WTF Appt -Told by our RE to quit IVF. Second Opinion from RE is good. IVF#2 - November 2012. Estradiol Pills Started 11/6. Stims start 11/16. ER 11/26 - 7 eggs retrieved - all mature. 4 fertilized with ICSI. ET 11/29 Transferred 3 embryos. Beta is 12/10. 1st Beta 81 2nd Beta 160 and 3rd beta 360!!! I got my protocol today too!! but I am about a week or so behind you, but I wont start stims until the 29th or 30th.

I hope that you and your DH can come to some sort of agreement about freezing embies. This process brings up so many things to decide on!!

April- Femara 2.5mg + Trigger + IUI = BFN
May- Femara 5mg = CX - No Response on Left = BFN

August- Lap & Hysteroscopy = Blocked & Partially Blocked Tubes
Scar Tissue Removed, Left Tube Partially Open

Another option to not having embies to freeze is to freeze your eggs. They fertilize a few eggs and if they look good they freeze the rest. Lots of success stories doing it that way. Good luck!

Good luck with your protocol!  Hopefully your DH will come around.  FX this will be the only IVF cycle you will need, but if it doesn't work and you have frosties, you can do a FET which requires a lot less meds then a fresh.  I have never had any frosties, so I guess I can't imagine not wanting to freeze extras.  Again, good luck!

Stimming is hard work! You pump your body up on so many meds, how many fresh cycles wpuld you and he be willing to do? At first we weren't going to freeze any, but ended up freezing 3. I'm so happy we did, because our first ivf was a bfn and so we get 3 more chances before having to do another fresh cycle. There are no guarantees and fresh cycles are expensive, on top of that physically demanding. I say freeze, cause you never know. Lots of luck to you!

I'm sure you're glad you have a protocol, good luck moving forward.  As for your dilemma, I could see your H side of it but it will ultimately be both your decisions.  I hope you can come to an agreement together.

Another option to not having embies to freeze is to freeze your eggs. They fertilize a few eggs and if they look good they freeze the rest. Lots of success stories doing it that way. Good luck!

This is really an interesting compromise.  Do you have any idea if the cost to fertilize them in the future would be a huge amount more than a typical FET cycle?  We are losing all IF insurance coverage at the end of this year, so we will be OOP in the future.
