weight gain

I am just about 8 weeks and I have already gained about 7 lbs.  I have also quit smoking which is causing me to snack...alot.  They say in the first trimester to only put on about 1-3 lbs.  Is this to much weight to put on/will it cause a problem later on?

Depends on your starting weight, and how much more you put on, but I don't think your weight gain sounds outrageous. Putting on a few extra pounds is way better than smoking, congratulations on quitting :)

Thank you it deffinately isn't easy!!  Starting weight was 135.  I was just worried about putting more on because I still have a month left in my first trimester.

A lot of the weight could be "bloating" too. I wouldn't fret about it. The great thing is that you were able to quit smoking! So look at that as a positive! So far I've gained 5 lbs - and I'm trying not to stress over it.

Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

I'm normally a lurker, but I thought I'd share.

I am nearly 13 weeks and have already gained 10 lbs.  I am a little stressed about it because I worry that I'm gaining too quickly.

Like you, I quit smoking as soon as I found out.  For a while, I ate a lot of comfort foods (chocolate, macaroni and cheese) that really helped with the gain.  And I know I snack a lot more than I used to. My doctor said to be careful, but that gaining a few extra lbs. is better than cigarettes.  Still, I'm trying to get a handle on this now that I'm doing a little better without smoking.

I started out at 138, which is pretty much the most I can weight without being overweight.

If you have to gain some weight to quit smoking then don't worry. I've never smoked but I understand it's hard to quit. So keep up the good work and don't stress about the weight. Maybe try to find healthy snacks if eating helps. Carrot sticks, celery, fruit etc..

I gained five pounds between week 4 and 5, then at the beginning of week 5, I lost all of them in one day. First tri is a weird time. Don't go crazy on the food but your priority is to stay off the cigarettes so do whatcha gotta do.

Awesome that you quite smoking! Hang in there :) If snacking is what helps, then just try and prepare snacks when you aren't hungry then it's easier to think about healthy choices. Just try and eat healthy snacks if you can. If you get some energy try going on walks to get out of the house, and get active. I personally have been so tired I haven't been able to do much exercising.
