sleeping through the night

When have ya'll been told it's ok to let baby sleep through the night? My girl is only 6 weeks, but she'd sleep through at least a majority of the night if i let her, but i was  told thats not ok and to even wake her up 2/3 hours to feed.

My pedi said to let them go 3 hours during the day and 4 to 5 hours at night. My LO has slept 6 to 7 hour stretches for a few nights and he was fine without being woken, and a very happy baby in the morning!

I have never woken DS at night to feed. During the day we wake him every 3 hours but at night he'll go 8-10 hours without eating. He's 7 wks old today. IMO I would never wake a sleeping baby at night.

You only need to wake to feed until they get back to birth weight.

I agree with this. I don't wake our DD at night to feed, I let her tell us when she wants to get up and eat. I don't let her sleep more than 2 ish hours at a time during the day and she usually eats every 2.5-3 during the day.

DD started STTN around 7w or so. I freaked out and called her pedi and asked if that was ok. She said that as long as LO was eating enough, that it was fine. General rule of thumb is that for every pound your LO weighs they should eat 2 to 2 and 1/2oz. So, DD weighs 10lbs, so she should be getting around 20 to 25oz a day.

Once it was confirmed that DS was healthy and gaining weight, midwife said we didn't have to wake at night for feeds anymore. Last night he slept for 6 hours then 4 hours after that. Enjoy it!

my daughter is 2 months and sleeps 10-12 hours at night without eating. she is gaining weight fine and im not worried but her grandmother is and seems very irritated at me for being relaxed on this. the doc wasnt worried when i told them when she started sleeping eight hours at night so why would it be bad for a few more hours?

I don't wake up my little boy to eat.

He has slept through the night since the day/night he was born (except for a few nights). I have never woken him up to eat (even when he lost almost a pound of his birth weight). He is 5 weeks old now and he weighs 10 pounds 5 ounces. His doctor is pretty happy with how healthy he is.

During the day it seems like he doesn't eat very often, but maybe I'm just tired because he is on track with everything. :)

This.  But my LO has never gone more than 4 hours between feedings. He wakes up on his own.  =(

This is the same information my pedi gave me. I sure wish we had this problem. My DD won't sleep longer than 3 hrs at night.

Ditto PPs.  Once they hit birth weight, you don't need to wake them to eat. DS started STTN 10-6 by 9 weeks and just ate before and after.

We let DS2 tell us when he's hungry. We start bedtime around 9, but sometimes he doesn't really go to sleep until after 10. He had a pretty good stretch last night as his last nighttime bottle was at 10 and he didn't wake until 5:30. After that he slept for another 2 hours and was ready to eat again at 7:30. He sleeps decent through the night giving us at least 4 hours and then during the day it's anywhere between 2-3 hours that he eats. He gets at least 7 feedings in a day and he eats around 4 oz so that's pretty normal I think.

This or if they continue to have no/slow weight gain.  Our LO was STTN, but he wasn't gaining weight so we were told to wake him once/night.  Now he won't sleep all the way through (I learned this the couple of times I overslept my MOTN alarm), but I guess in the beginning he was sleeping through his hunger.  He's back to gaining weight now, albeit slowly.

Once my baby was past his birth weight, I was given the clear to let him sleep.
