We have been set on Oliver Ray B-- since we found out that we are having a boy. The name does make me smile, and I feel like it fits our style (hopefully that makes sense). I think that it is strong and masculine, but not over used. But now that his arrival is coming up I have found myself doubting our name choice. Ray is a family name and is nonnegotiable. The other names that I am floating around are Bennett Ray (two family names- one from my side of the family and one from my H's) and Arlo Ray. I should also mention that we have a cat named Olive and I thought that maybe I could get past that, but it still bothers me that the names are similar.
What is your reaction to the name Oliver?
I absolutely love Oliver. It is one of my favorite boy names. It will be our name if we ever have another boy.
Also love Arlo.
Do not like Bennett at all.
lann1068:Maybe it is just normal to reconsider names every once in a while? My brain goes from obsessing about one thing to another. Maybe this is just my obsession as of late?
DH and I reconsidered Ian's name about 35435 times before naming him. We did the same for our first two as well, but naming Ian (DS2) was the hardest.
I did this too towards the end. We picked out names before we knew the sex. I think nerves and always wondering if you pick the right name. I say go with your gut, go over why you picked Oliver and go with it. My LO definitely fits his name.
I love Oliver and Arlo is on our list for another boy. I really don't like Bennett.
I also had cold feet about DS' name right before I had him. But even then I knew it was "the" name. Just go with your gut.
I LOVE it...wish my DH did too :P Not to be crude, but, um, how old is the cat?
If it makes you feel better, I reconsidered our girl's name (don't know the baby's sex!) at 37 weeks...and we did decide to change it.
I kind of agree with Joy here on this one...I'm not really fond of the name. I kind of see where it's cute, but there is an Oliver I know and I don't think very highly of him (that always seems to taint things doesn't it?!)
Just my two cents! I also have a "non-negotiable" name I have to deal with and I now know how hard it can be to incorporate the full name into everything! Trying not to over-think it myself. Just go with your heart and ultimately it will tell you what seems right!
I like Oliver a lot. Bennett seems a lot more trendy (although from previous posters' comments it seems like maybe Oliver is becoming popular, too?). The two names don't seem to be the same style to me. I've never heard Arlo before, but it sounds like it should be the name of a sci-fi or fantasy story character (especially with Ray).
I wouldn't worry about the cat named Olive... Your son is gonna be around a lot longer than the cat!
