co-ed baby shower, registering for breastfeeding supplies

Hello everyone,

We are starting to pick out things for our registry and have already decided we will be having a co-ed baby shower (think uncles, brothers, dh friends). Since we are planning on breastfeeding, is it weird to register for breastfeeding supplies? I could be totally over thinking this but we're the first of our friends and siblings to be having a baby so I'm not sure what the norm is in this case. Thanks for the help ladies!

You can. I'd assume the wife or SO would do the shopping anyways. I've see it registered for before but I've never seen someone actually get it at their shower.

Put it on there.  If nobody gets you the supplies, you can use your completion discount for them.  And really - if it makes a guy uncomfortable to know that you're going to breastfeed your child, they have bigger problems to deal with!

I will never understand why some people put the nipple pads on a registry....like who the heck ever buys you the nipple pads? Who buys $6 worth of boob pads as a gift even combined with something else!

Maybe just register for a nursing cover and leave it at that until you complete your registry? Not bc the guests are male, but bc who the heck would buy that!

The last two showers I was at, the mom to be got a gift bag full of breastfeeding supplies.  (nipple pads, cream, baggies, pump parts, the whole nine yards)  I guess it just depends on the crowd!

I would, and did. Our shower was co-ed. No one actually purchased any of it, I think we did the boppy cover we wanted (we received a hand-me-down boppy with a "boy" cover so I registered for a girly one) but I'm not sure if that counts...

It isn't a big deal though, someone may get you a pump if you're asking for one but if not then you can get it yourself with the completion discount coupon you will get for your registry. Most other nursing supplies like creams/pads/shields/etc. are $5, $10, $15... so they're easy to run to the store and pick up.

I did a breast feeding gift basket for my cousin. It was everything put the pump and yes it included nipple pads. I'd much rather see that than 1 million blankets and towels or a bunch of really expensive stuff.

My mother-in-law did for my shower. She was kind enough to not only purchase the breast pump but also made a basket with nipple pads, cream, storage bags, etc. Guests at the past few showers I've attended have also either purchased a pump or some type of accessory. I don't see anything weird about it. Baby has to eat.

OP, go ahead and add them to the registry. If people buy something, great. If not, you get to use the completion coupon.

My grandma did this for my shower. She made me a little gift basket with nipple cream, breast pads, breast milk bags (she knew I already had my pump). A friend of mine who is a new mom also got me her favorite brand of breast pads. It's really not that unheard of.

I have no idea what one thing here has to do with the other: co-ed shower and nursing supplies.  Are you worried that the men will be uncomfortable when you open up a breast pump?  Who the hell cares?

Register for what you want.

I kinda gotta agree. I registered for it. No one said they were offended, but they also didn't buy much of it except the Boppy and the storage bottles. Who cares? If they don't want to buy it, they won't, and you'll use your completion coupon anyway, so you can put that on it as well. I didn't register for anything with anyone besides me, DH, and LO in mind.

I registered for nipple pads/nursing cover. My family/friends are very pro-breastfeeding so I didn't think twice putting it on the registry. That being said, no one bought them.

I registered for BFing supplies and I'm totally the person who buys them for others. Mostly because I know pretty much nobody else is going to buy that stuff, but they're definite "need" items if you plan on breastfeeding. I think some people are just embarassed to buy that sort of thing. But, as others have said, at lest include them on your registry so you can get them at a discount if nobody gets them for you.

I don't see the big deal. If they don't feel comfortable they won't buy it for you. I had one guy look at my registry who said "I'm not getting you nipple cream" I told him I didn't expect him to but breastfeeding was natural and not to make it weird. lol

And I would be THRILLED if someone bought me the breast pads, etc that I registered for rather than another outfit so I don't see how it could be a bad idea.

I did...but then I didn't have any co-ed showers.  I don't think it would be weird/awkward to put them on the registry or even to get them...but I do think it might be a tad awkward to OPEN them if the guys are standing around.  I've only been to 2 co-ed showers and the guys didn't even watch the gift opening...so there is that to consider.

Maybe you've not been to many baby showers...but the ones I've been to (and the mom has registered for those things) they have gotten them - including MINE.  So...since you don't understand why "some" people put them on there...that is the reason.  lol

Put it on there!  I received a nice supply bag of nursing pads, nursing cover, creams, etc.  When I got home from the hospital and was leaking all over, it was the first thing I grabbed (and not the cutsie matching outfits)!

Another vote for putting it on the registry!  I registered for everything, got storage bags and breast pads I believe from people and got to use the completion coupon for the pump - win/win!
