Babysitter question

So I have started to look for someone who can help me with the girls just once maybe twice a week.  I just want someone to play with them and keep them occupied while I do things around the house.  We are trying to get their playroom together and DH just picked up a second job so he won't be much help in doing it.  I also just want someone to maybe stay with the girls while I run errands once a week.  So my question is has anyone used care.com to find a babysitter?  Has anyone used any other services to find a babysitter?  I am nervous about leaving my girls with someone I don't know, but I really need the help.  I hate to keep asking family because they all work and have their own things to do everyday.  Thanks in advance for any feedback you all can give.

I haven't used care.com but heard good things about it. Seeing that you need help while you are around as well, start there.... hire someone and for the first week or so stick around the house and get to know her and LO's will get to know her. Then maybe you will feel more comfortable to leave a little at a time. I know it's scary!!

I have used sittercity.com which is the same idea. They have backround checks available on the site.  I made a list of questions to ask before hand and trusted my gut, we found a sitter who lives close by that I just felt in my gut was good. We have only used her twice for short periods so far.  I would like you said be home the first few times so you can show her how you do things and be close by just incase...then once you're comfortable you can hopefully leave the how if needed.  I am still not even 100% comfortable leaving the girls w/out it being family and even then i worry. I think it's just part of being a mom that hopefully gets easier with time.

We've found some great sitters through care.com.  I tried sittercity.com too but never got many responses.

I find with care.com that you can find great people but you need to have patience.  For every 5 responses I would get, only 2 or 3 would actually set up an interview and probably only 1 would actually show up for the interview.  That said, I like the simplicity of having someone else deal with the background check for you.  We had people come to our home for interviews and actually paid more attention to how DS acted around them then what they said.  We have a new woman starting on Saturday.  After the interview she got up to put her coat on and DS burst into tears and ran to her to be picked up so he apparently likes her :)

But we've previously used two sitters from the same sight and both were reliable, professional and great with DS.  I know it's very scary but it seems like you'll be around a bit.  Just interview and choose someone and spend the first few times they're there cleaning and doing something within earshot and work up to actually leaving.  You'll be okay :)

I used sittercity.com.I got 100+ responses in 24 hrs.It was crazy.I found our baby sitter there. They have background checks and reviews.I saw many people but ended up picking the first person.Make sure to check all the references.

I'm home mostly when she's here, but sometimes I go out to run errands. It was VERY hard to leave my DD behind with the sitter. It's still is, to be honest. But I'm learning to ease up a little, so you can do it, too.
