Painful contractions/back pain?

Anyone else having semi-painful time-able contractions and/or lower back pain. I called the nurse yesterday and she said it sounds like I am exerting myself too much b/c I shouldn't be having contractions this early. She advised that I rest, drink more water and try not to stress. This morning I am having really bad lower back pain but it is in one spot and I am still having contractions. I don't think it's BH though. I wouldn't say they are labor-painful but there are a few that are about a 6/10 but most are more like a 3-4/10 (if that makes sense). They aren't regular but I can feel them coming and they last about 15-30 seconds.

I'm wondering if anyone else is going through this or does this warrant being checked out. The nurse asked if I wanted to come in yesterday but she also said there's not much they can do at this point except to check my cervix and make sure I'm not dilated. I don't want to go in if it's not necessary but I am afraid there could be something wrong that I don't want to ignore either.

I would call your Dr back and get checked out. It sounds like they should at least do a NST and make sure it's not contractions.

Given my history, I would always, always, always err on the side of being checked out.  If you go in, you can also specifically ask that the doctor perform a transvaginal ultrasound--cervical changes typically happen from the inside-out, and so the ultrasound may be able to detect changes in your cervix that are not noticeable from a manual exam.

When I started having a lot of BH between my 24-28 week appts my Dr sent me in for an u/s to make sure that my cervix wasn't thinning b/c of them. They weren't regular but they were coming on more frequently than every 7-10 minutes, sometimes 3 in a matter of about 10 min so she just decided to check and put our minds at ease.

At this point I would want to make sure it's not pre-term labor for the baby's sake & b/c if you let it go too long thinking it's something normal and it's not it might be too far progressed for them to stop it, sooner is always better for delaying preterm labor. It's always better to be proactive than have regrets.

Call the doctor. I had the exact same thing with DS1, when I was around 20 weeks. I started having pains, that I thought were gas pains, but they wouldn't let up and I noticed they had a pattern. We went to the hospital and I was having contractions. They gave me terbutaline to stop them, ran an IV because I was dehydrated- and I ended up diagnosed with an irritable uterus, and I was put on Procardia.

They never officially diagnosed me with pre-term labor, and my cervix never changed, but I did end up in L&D 2 times after that with more contractions.  It's worth it to call and double check.

I would go in and get checked.  Even if they are just BH, you really shouldnt be having them THAT often.

Thanx ladies! I went to doc and they checked my cervix and took a bunch of swabs to test for infection. They said my cervix is closed and nothing jumped out as looking bad inside. The spot that hurts on my back isn't from kidneys or sciatic nerve so they don't know why it hurts. Only guess is that babies head is pushing on a nerve there. They sent me home and said to drink a lot and rest. My contractions have slowed down but I can't get rid of the back pain no matter how I lay down.

I'm not as far along as you, but am currently having the same problem.  My back pain is so bad that I can't walk without help from DH.  I ended up at the Dr yesterday and they did an u/s just to check on LO.  I had a UA to test for UTI and it came back borderline, so the Dr put me on an antibiotic.  I also went in for PT today to try to show me some exercises to do once my spasms stop.  I'm also on a low dose of Hydrocodone to help with the pain & to try to get some rest.
