I like the name. I would stick with the whole name with no nickname.

I love the name Donovan, I think of Donovan McNabb, the pro football player but that is because he is from my area and we were in high school around the same time... he was real good then too obviously, so I heard his name frequently.

Van is an awesome nn.   If Donovan and Doyle were not surnames of close neighbors, I would really have those two on our list.

Donovan is a family name contender for us, and FH loves the nickname Van, if we go with the name at some point.

Immediate Reaction: Sounds like a black/mixed race kid...would stike me as strange on a blue eye blonde haired child. Good solid name though.
