Anxiety

Have any of you ladies been told by your doctor's to not tempt, chart, etc... or to stop if you already have been? That this could be causing you anxiety and possibly causing you not to get pregnant if you are otherwise healthy?

It caused me more anxiety when I wasn't temping. Too much uncertainty and guessing.

I haven't told my doctor that I was temping so to answer your question, no. I can see it causing anxiety though. I just started temping this cycle and I feel that it has me obsessing over TTC.

I guess I'm curious whether or not anxiety really can affect one from getting pregnant....

Like mommyames said, I feel like I would feel more anxious if I didn't stay on top of my charting. I don't want to play the guessing game on when we should be having sex.

That being said, it is possible to get TOO obsessive with charting/temping to the point where it's all you think about. That can cause too much stress on your body, which could then lead to fertility issues.

Well the cycle after my wedding was 42 days and that has never happened to me in my life. I have never gone over 30 days. I swore I was pregnant. After coming to this board, I realize that I most likely ovulated late due to all the stress leading up to my wedding, so I definitely believe stress can affect your cycle and your health in general.

I never told my doctor that I'm charting.

I didn't chart for the first few cycles and I was way more stressed out and anxious than I am now that I chart.

To be honest, I have felt more relaxed in the months I took off from temping. However, that didn't result in a BFP either, and at the end of the cycle, I was left feeling like I had possibly "wasted" a month. As long as I don't obsess, I'm less anxious temping than not.

Um no. Excessive stress/anxiety can cause you to ovulate late or your cycles to be wacky but that is not the reason you are not getting pregnant. What about tempting causes that much anxiety? Look at it from a medical standpoint.. you are charting your cycles to focus on what your body is doing on a cycle by cycle basis. How long have you been TTC/Charting?

For me temping makes me less stressed, because I feel im more aware of whats going on now and am a little more in control to help things along..

I was not told by a doc to stop temping, but I made the decision to take a break this cycle after having a very stressful month last cycle. Among other things, I felt I was getting too obsessive about the whole TTC process. This month I am still doing OPKs and we're having sex EOD, and I can say I am much more relaxed this cycle. That said, if it doesn't work out, I will go back to temping next month because I do miss the benefit of knowing exactly what my body is doing.

Slapptastic:

I didn't chart for the first few cycles and I was way more stressed out and anxious than I am now that I chart.

This exactly, I didn't chart my first couple months off of BC and it was very stressful, I obsessed about every possible symptom I thought could mean pregnancy, and was totally guessing about when I O'd, my cycle, etc.  Now that I've charted this cycle, I feel more in control, I know what's going on, and I can relax and let my body do what it's going to do, knowing I've done all that I can.  No guesswork = way less anxiety for me.

My doctor told me to chart.  And like a few others, it's too stressful when I'm not charting.  I took one month off (thinking I was giving myself a break) - worst month ever!  Won't do that again.

My doctor has not said anything about not temping. I'm choosing not to temp this cycle because my sleep has been so erratic. I hardly get three hours at a time due to pain issues, and DD's teething etc. So, I think if it is a personal bother to you, for whatever reason, and you want to forgo it for one or two cycles then that is a personal choice. You need to do what works for you.

I don't think stress prevents anyone from getting pregnant. It does make your life very difficult though, and if you feel like eliminating charting/OPK/whathaveyou would alleviate that anxiety then you can do a trial n' error to see. The worst that can happen is that you find that you really don't like not knowing what is going on and return to charting next cycle. I hope you get your BFP soon.

I haven't told my doctor that I'm charting but when I wasn't charting I wasn't having sex when I O'd because I thought I O'd sooner than I do.  Charting doesn't really cause me any anxiety because I know when I O and it helps me to know more about my body which to me can only help my chances.

My RE encourages charting, but I can definitely see where an RE would and an OB wouldn't.  If my cycles were a perfect 28 days I probably wouldn't chart and just use OPKs.  But seeing as how my cycles have been nuts this past year, being able to see that I Od this cycle and watch my temps during the 2WW is awesome.

If I had a nickel for every "just relax and it will happen" comment...

Anyway- I love charting because I know when I will get my period if nothing else. My cycles are so erratic I just never know.

When I went to get my IUD out my OB said not to chart, she saw no need, was sure I wouldn't have any trouble getting pregnant "within a few months" and it would only stress me out.

I'm really glad that I temp/chart because I would be so anxious and confused about my long cycle right now.

In the summer, before I really knew about charting/temping and wasn't TTC yet I had an 89 day cycle and took about 8,000 pregnancy tests.  It was crazy.

This time I know I haven't ovulated yet so nothing to test for and I am much less concerned about it because I have a sense of what is going on.

I don't really like charting, but mostly because I wake up at weird times in the night, so then I stressed about times. My doctor didn't say whether I should or shouldn't when I told him. I did it enough where I found a consistent trend with O, so without charting, I feel pretty confident about O by just using OPKs (and in the last two cycles, it appears I've Od at the same time as I always have).

However, I'm starting Clomid in January, so I'll probably start temping again - my O dates will most likely change.
